I had surgery 9 years ago to cure me of this, the most painful condition in the world. TN can have several causes. In my case, my MRI was normal, so no brain tumor was present, and since I was taking 2 very expensive drugs, and I was taking the legal limit, and they were not working, my Doctor sent me to a Neurosurgeon, who told me that the only way to fix it was to see what was causing it. Upon opening my skull, he found a large varicose vein laying across the trigeminal nerve leading to my face and was able to place a Dacron patch between the nerve and the vein. After I recovered, he told me that before surgery was commonplace for this condition, it was 100% terminal. 60% of sufferers starved to death, and 40% killed themselves. Get yourself to a Neurosurgeon and have yourself evaluated. It could be something simple like I had. May God bless you and good luck.

Oh man, I have that too. I've been in remission for about a year and a half.
It is suspected that mine is the result of a virus in the nerve endings, because when I have a bad flare up, it's not just the trigeminal nerve but also the other two branches off of it. (I also get partial paralysis with it from my ear to the center of my nose and roof of mouth)
The carbamezapine I thought did nothing. I was put on anti-virals which I also thought did nothing. They also put me on neurontin to calm down the nerve endings...while on all of these, I had no relief, but then again, I don't know if they actually shortened the duration or not.
The best thing I have found is pain killers! Darvocet and a hot compress to the face. But most of all, I found that eliminating stress from my life keeps the flare ups away! I ended up quitting my job because of it - I was debilitated by the headaches and pain. It took about a year for the feeling to come back to my face. Now, when I start getting over-stressed or if I have a cold or a bad headache, the shooting pain starts up for a few days then calms back down. I force myself, though, to relax and not over do it. And I haven't taken any of the neurontin, robaxin, carbamezapine or zovox for over 2 years...just painkillers!

Barack Obama's Plan Create Secure Borders Obama wants to preserve the integrity of our borders. He supports additional personnel, infrastructure and technology on the border and at our ports of entry. Improve Our Immigration System Obama believes we must fix the dysfunctional immigration bureaucracy and increase the number of legal immigrants to keep families together and meet the demand for jobs that employers cannot fill. Remove Incentives to Enter Illegally Obama will remove incentives to enter the country illegally by cracking down on employers who hire undocumented immigrants. Bring People Out of the Shadows Obama supports a system that allows undocumented immigrants who are in good standing to pay a fine, learn English, and go to the back of the line for the opportunity to become citizens. Work with Mexico Obama believes we need to do more to promote economic development in Mexico to decrease illegal immigration.

Laser knife surgery, which is minimally invasive, has been very effective in alleviating the pain.
