Certain types can, others require a biopsy. PSA is a blood test for prostate cancer, CEA is for certain types of cancer, but not all cancers are convenient enough to have a lab test associated with them. If you are worried about the initial report your MD gave you, by all means get a second opinion. WebMD.com can give you all kinds of medical answers.

Cancer can levels to rise in blood such as in prostrate cancer they look at your PSA level. ( PSA, or prostate-specific antigen, is a protein produced by the prostate gland. Levels of PSA in the blood are elevated in men with prostate cancer, but there is uncertainty about just how much is too much. Many doctors use 4 nanograms per milliliter of blood as a cut off point to determine which men need a prostate biopsy to search for cancer. )

Yes sometimes but it depends on what type you have and how long you have had it...Lymphoma takes a little longer (I think) to show up in blood than other cancers. It just depends...The doctor will know which test to do if you need to be tested.

Yes depends on what stage the cancer is in.. my precancer was not detected through blood but through an abnormal PAP and a biopsy... so I guess it depends on type of cancer too.. Sorry I could not be of more help...

Abnormalities pointing to cancer can be detected through the blood but not always.
But there are many clues before that, that many GPs are not qualified enough to get...or simply believe "it couldn't possibly be" for one reason or another.
If you have concerns, they should run tests to rule them out.

If there's cancer in the blood, then yes.
But technically, it would be a test for cancer using blood as the sample.
I suppose if you were being picky, a blood test would test whether or not something is blood...

I was just diagnosed with lymphoma but all my blood tests were normal. So I'm not too sure- I guess it does depend on what stage you're in.
