Oh a Yorkie!! I Love Yorkies i used to have one but now it lives with another person. It used to get stinky too. The reason is because they have long fur and when they go outside for a walk they get all the dirty things stuck to their fur. So that's the reason. I hoped that this helped you.

It depends what you mean by smelly. Dogs are an animal and are therefore supposed to smell. You are bathing her far too much and she will end up with bad skin. Long haired dogs should only be bathed 1-2 times a year. Maybe you should wash her bedding more often as this harbours smells.
My mum's dog was very smelly, especially when she had been in water. She went to the vet and they discovered her glands were full and needed emptied. This helps get rid of the smell, she goes every few months to have this done.
I suggest you take your dog to the vet who will be able to tell you if anything is wrong or if the smell is just normal doggy odour.

Some dogs have oils in their skin that just smells bad. It could be her diet too. I had a friend that had two yorkies and they smelled horrible to me, though they were completely loving. I also have a friend with a basset hound that smells awful no matter how much they bathe him!
I wouldn't wash the Yorkie to much because it isn't good for their skin. Maybe some kind of nice smelling powder that you can put in the fur? Look around at the pet store. Baby powder may be cheaper and work just as good. Just make sure when you put it on the dog you don't get the powder cloud to close to the dogs nose. It isn't good for them to breathe in to much of any kind of powder.
Good Luck and Take Care

Vinegar works great to help her not smell so bad. Use some when you bath her. You will be amazed how well it works. You could also try washing her bedding more often, or spray fabreeze in the area. If you do use the vinegar, be careful not to get it in her eyes. I was supprised at how well it worked on my dog. You may want to bathe her in the viregar first then use some shampoo so that she doesn't have the vinegar smell.

It couldn't possibly be her entire body so start checking around her body and make sure you didn't miss a patch of matted hair, then...
ears- clean them with peroxide, if the "dirt" turns red when wet she has ear mites... get meds from the vet
butt- feel just above and to the sides of where her tail attaches and feel if it's "stiff" and swollen- impacted anal glands... take her to the vet to have them show you what to do
mouth- she may have an infection or need her teeth cleaned... this smell can dribble down on to her hair around her mouth making her smell worse

Where is the smell coming from? Check her ears, they may be infected. Yorkies normally have a good smell because they have hair and are non shedders. You should take her to the vet to be sure.

Does your dog go outside, or is it a strictly inside dog? They make doggie "perfume" that deodorizes and adds a nice smell. You could try that if you don't like bathing so often and smell is the only problem. I have a friend who uses it on her dog and has no problems. My dog does not like it at all, though.

If it smells like rancid butter, it could well be a staph infection in the stomach. The vet can cure it easily and cheaply. My dog had it and got over it in 10 days. Costs about $50.00

My Mom has a Yorkie, and he is similar to what you describe. We have found that it seems to be related to his hair being very fine, it gets oily and dirty much quicker and seems to hold on to the dirt and grime for some reason. It has helped to keep his hair cut somewhat short to avoid it dragging through grass and dirt. Hope this helps!

It could be infected ears, anal glands or bad teeth. Is she spayed? If not ,it could be a uterine infection, although dogs are usually very ill with these.I'd ask a vet,but in my experience, some dogs just smell more than others ,just like people.
