Get yourself the Flash MX program from Macromedia, and purchace a used or new Flash MX Hands on Training book by Lynda (lynda.com). Learning flash is not easy and takes alot of patience. There are also tons of tutorials online. You may be better off learning to create some banners to start, but the book is great, very easy to follow and learn.

Flash Professional 8 is the way to go. There are many videos and books that can help you learn how to use it. It is intimidating at first just like Photoshop but once you start practicing it all makes sense.

The academic version is very cheap. Or you can also buy an older version and simply buy the upgrade for the better price.
