I took my husband yesterday to the dentist because he is having terrible tootache pain, well, the doctor said that they have to wait until the infection clears up in order to pull the teeth out. They gave him some antibiotic and pain medicine, but the pain medicine is not strong enough. They scheduled him for 10-11-06, like two weeks from now.He says that he does not think that he will be able to wait that long, and believe me, he is in intolerable pain. What else can a dentist do to help in this case?Any way of putting him asleep to do it?

A dentist wont pull his tooth out untill the infection as cleared cause this will cause infection to travel in to the hole thats left behind, the only thing he can do is continue to take his antibiotics and pain killers and apply a warm heat source to his face he will just have to ride the pain out as it will stop in few days when the infection starts to clear up.

As the infection leaves he will feel better. It should not take too long for the antibiotic to kick in. Ibuprofen is good for infection and pain. He could take up to 6oo milligrams so he could take 3 / 200 mg every couple hours since you have to have a prescription so just take 3 at a time. The dentist is right to wait until the infection is gone before working on him so don't doubt that. If he continues to suffer call the dentist again for stronger pain medicine, but the 600 mg should do it for him.

Try powdered clove, or there are commecial pain relievers (usually ointment form of local anesthetics. Ice may relieve pain temporarily. If you have it, give him some Drambuie...sort of rinsed around the mouth...it burns a little...but works.

Call the dentist and let him know that the medication is not easing the pain. He/She should then offer you another perscription
