I am from Chicago....home of the best hot dogs in the world. They are all beef dogs on poppy seed buns and are topped with dill pickle spears, hot peppers, relish, onions, tomato wedges, cucumber slices and mustard...no ketchup ever!!! Who hates ketchup on hot dogs and what do you like on them?

You people ( meaning hot dog lovers ) ROCK!! I expected to get all kinds of grief about how hot dogs are bad for you and blah, blah, blah!! I'm thrilled to find people still love them and aren't whimping out. Oh,I have had Nathan's and they don't compare to Portillo's in Chicago!!

First of all you are confused. The best hot dogs in the world are from NY. The best toppings for a NY hot dog are mustard and sauerkraut. Not that yellow mustard that the folks in Chicago put on theirs either, real NY deli mustard. Of course some people prefer relish, sauteed onions, or even ketchup. Then in NJ there are Italian hot dogs - peppers, onions, potatoes, not really my favorite.
Some genius from NY went to Los Angeles and stuck his hot dog in an onion roll, and called it a Dodger dog - those too are great. Stadium hot dogs rule.
But saying the best hot dogs in the world come from anywhere but the original Nathan's of Coney Island, would be plain ridiculous.

I'm with Panama! Ketchup's nasty!!
Mustard & onion, or chili & cheese!
A grocery store here in Texas, HEB, has the best hot dogs! Their own brand, Texas Original, all beef and mesquite flavored. Yum!

I can't imagine tomatoes and cucumbers on a hotdog. Guess I wouldn't do very well in Chicago.
I like mine with chili, cheese, relish, onion and mustard.
Or sometimes just sauerkraut and mustard.

The Chicago dog is definately the best I have ever had. I've also had it with just a pinch of black pepper on it, but never ketchup.

Best hot dog I ever had was from a street vendor in Ukraine - he topped them with tomatoes, cucumber, sour cream and hot sauce. Can't eat them any other way.
