You can have whoever you like as a bridesmaid although it is usually a young unmarried woman"a maiden". Usually you choose your sisters or your fiancees sisters-if there are none then cousins are a good choice. Most people choose the closeset female members possible for bridesmaids. People who have been married before or who had children before getting married have their own daughters as bridesmaids-this is very common in UK now. I went to a wedding recently where the bride had not married before but had 3 daughters from a long term relationship. When she got married, her daughters were her bridesmaids. Just choose people you know will be honoured to be bridesmaids and bear in mind that if you look back on the wedding photos in 20 years time to look at the bridesmaids that they are people who will still be dear to you.

Yes... the only thing I can think of that would prompt this question is that, first cousins should not marry each other. The problem is in the genes, they would share their family's strengths and weaknesses and their children have a much higher probability that they will have "defects" show up due to the shared gene sequences. But what possible difference would it make to have a cousin as a bridesmade. I've been to a wedding where the mother of the bride was the Matron of Honor. Closer kinship there... eh?

Of course! I had my cousin as a bridesmaid! Many people choose family, but be sure they understand the financial obligation (attire, hair, makeup, travel, etc) when you ask them to be a part of your day! Congrats!

I don't see why not. It's your wedding and you can choose to have Bozo the clown up there on your behalf if you wish. I've heard of couples who have had members of the opposite sex stand up as their maid of honor or best man. It's your wedding, you can plan it how you want to.
