I had 3 cats, but 2 ran off about 2 weeks ago and no one's called us about their flyers (meaning no one's seen them), and they left their 1 1/2 year old son. I've paid extra attention to him and made sure he doesn't feel bad, but the problem there in lies: He's not MY cat, he's my dad's. He's gotten to where he sleeps next to me, he wants me to feed him, me to play with him, and NOT my dad. I don't really want him to be my cat, as I intend to adopt from the shelter when we have the money. What can I do to seem like less of an owner to him?

cats form attachments just like people do. sounds like he has picked you to be his human and not your dad. we have one that has nothing at all to do with me, but loves my husband. if you still live at home with your dad, then there's no problem. if not, then you might want to consider taking the cat home with you. it would be cruel to him for you to leave him too.

Um, spend less time with him?
Is you dad jealous? If dad doesn't have a problem, why do you? If the cat is healthy and happy and affectionate with everyone, why are you worried?
Relax. Cats are part of our families. Are you freaked out when family members talk to each other and you are not included in the conversation? Does it mean those people love you less? Nope, it means you are a family and each person is precious and we want to spend time with everyone. Same with cats. The cat loves you and your dad, she wants to spend time with both of you.
Hope this helps.

When your cat lost his other furry buddies, he decided YOU were the one that was most special to him. Please don't ignore him, or think that just because you hope to get another cat and this one is your dad's that it's okay not to help him get over his grief.

You probably have a little more time to spend with him than your dad. Give him love.... And keep him inside and safe! Even if you get another kitty of your own, like all of us, he needs to feel special, particularly after losing his furry buddies.

PLEASE don't abandon this poor baby! He's already lost his mom and dad! Is there something wrong with him that you don't want him to be yours? Or is your dad upset? Could it be that you have more time than your dad to pay attention to him, so he's used to you now? Whatever it is, be kind to the cat, it's not his fault his mom and dad left! And if you keep them inside, they won't leave, they'll live longer, and be much healthier!

You need to start paying less attention to the cat, and your dad needs to start paying more attention to him. It's as simple as that.
