goto to hotels.com and check out the feedback about that particular hotel... the visitors can leave feedback and if the area is ghetto, then I quite sure somebody would say so...
Also check out other website that offer feedbacks about the hotels... this is a good way of obtaining insight info...

You're still in Central Park West - nowhere near Harlem.
I drove down Broadway in that neighborhood at 3 AM one night back in 2003 - I never felt concerned for my safety. {EDIT} I forgot looking over my shoulder to the Columbia U campus - very pretty even at 3 AM.
Even Harlem has improved tremendously from days past. The East side tends to be dicier - but tenements there go for $1 million or so.

95th St. is actually about a mile south of Harlem. So not ghetto at all, that's actually a really nice neighborhood. You're south of Morningside Heights, where Columbia University is situated.

95th & Broadway is the Upper Westside of Manhattan. It is actually a nice neighborhood with lots of stores and restaurants. The real estate is actually expensive nowadays, which is always a good indication that the neighborhood is safe. Subway and buses are all nearby. Great location.

Its not ghetto at all. You will see some high priced condo even further north. Broaday is pretty well gentrified all the way up to the 120's. Even the 'ghetto' as you call it isnt that bad.
Your hotel is a block from the Subway and you can get anywhere in a few mintures.

no. it's actually a nice neighborhood. you don't hit harlem until 114th street, and it's still good at 114th. it's the 100's on the east side you probably don't want to wander around in.
you should know, though, that new york is a remarkably safe city.
