Flight caps at this time had the earphones built into the cap. they needed to communicate to the experienced pilot who would act as navigator for the group until they reached the fleet then the navigator would turn around and go home to get the next group. There was no other need to use the cap as the kamikaze's rarely flew over 10,000' thus no pressure or temperature effects to worry about.

During the time of kamikaze pilots, there were no helmets to be worn. Simple flight caps were worn to keep their temperature up, but it did not carry the role of a modern jet pilots helmet.

I know you are thinking they are going to die anyway so why wear protection....but.....

At high altitude the air pressure is intense, especially on the ear drums so the helmet protects them and keep them alert to find their mark!

I did not know they did. I think they wore a flying cap in the Japanese tradition.
