People try to tell you that historically Islam wasn't spread by the sword. This is false. Mohamed financed his campaigns against Mecca by raiding trade routes. He encouraged it. Even the Koran has a whole section on how to divide up the spoils of war. The different Islamic leaders after Mohamed were just as violent, pushing into different areas. Turkey used to be Christian until the onslaught of the invading Muslims. Christians organized the Crusades to push back the Muslim invaders into Europe.
They have always been violent because that is what the Koran teaches. Strike them at their necks it says of non muslims.

I think the Pope was merely quoting the Islamic text and did not believe it, but the Muslims are all up in arms and are just proving the text right.

A statement "proves" nothing. But let's say it's true. Why is it true? Do you think maybe those Christian Crusaders kinda p*ssed them off? (Just like the Pope is doing now - what a dunce - he is now responsible for even more deaths and warfare!)

Islam started in the 6th Century CE.

It was the Pope's church that had been 'following violence' since around about that time.

I think that you should talk from the orifice on your face, not any other one.
