You're talking about religion, not a belief in something. I believe you are referring to catholicism which is a system setup much like you so eloquently put. The problem with this is exactly what you said, that people feel guilty about committing sins-this is true if you only subscribe to the religion. Christianity is not merely to see who can prevent themselves from having the most sin but to truly believe we are saved from them. Someone who believe Christ died for those sins does not have to feel guilty because they are absolved and because of this, no sin before now or at anytime in the future can be held against you in you believe that this sacrifice was made and you accept him. You would as, if they don't matter then why don't I just live in sin and accept Jesus when I feel like it. As a true follower of Christ you become a new person in him and when the truth is revealed, those sins don't characterize your life anymore. Because of this, the closer you come to Him the less and less enjoyable many of those things from the old life seem. So in respone to your question, religion is a considerably different topic than a belief. Remember that before you so easily shun that which can help you.

I love this Question. I am by no means a follower of any faith. Most people go to churches to find some kind of self comfort and a closeness to some thing bigger then themselves. Religions as a hole are systems that in one way or another show people how they should live or could live a better life. I do think that most people think as long as they take a Church pit stop once a week they can keep doing the wrong thing over and over again because they feel like they are given forgiveness. In that case they are just fooling themselves. If you take the time to find a religion that works for you and gives you comfort great. Knowing that no one is perfect could they not fail to live up to the ideals of their religion and still try to be a better person by following said roles as best as they can with out being called a hypocrite ?

Religion is one thing Christianity is another. People can have religion and it can be anything but a true Christian does follow after God and tries to do all they can to follow His laws and show His love. Christians do at times sin and make mistakes they aren't perfect just forgiven. If they live a lifestyle as described above then I don't believe they are true to their faith unless they are new converts.

I said no to religion a long time ago.
To be fair, though, religion designed the rules so that people couldn't live up to them. It's a tactic used by many religions. If you can make people insecure about themselves and feel shame for their human nature, you can more easily sell your "solution" to "save" them from their faults. Churches fund themselves on guilt. It's the price religious people pay for spoon-fed moral laziness.

A lot of people say NO to religion as well...
but some people who do go to a "church" (as in any structure where people go to have fellowship with other people who are of the same faith or belief system) are not "religious".
religion in the concept you are describing is something that man made up to "try" to reach a god.
but God (who we will presume to be the Creator of you, me & everything else) is God. And because he is God he can reach us anytime, anyway he wishes to, without us having to do rituals, rules and other mumbo-jumbo (which i believe is what you have described and know as religion).
so say NO to religion by all means...
but saying NO to God, without even trying to find out if there might be one, is something else.
now the question i have for you is... do you say NO to GOD?

I agree. Believers can be very hypocritical.
If something is seriously wrong with what you are doing, you will know it. A book doesn't need to tell you murder is wrong, for example.
If we just live our lives as normal, we can learn what is good and bad on our own, instead of relying on an ancient book that has no idea about what goes on in the 21st century.

As long as you are not hurting anybody, do whatever you want to do. However, don't make these people, or some complicated rituals keep you away form God. We all need faith. Try to have a friendly relationship with God, and may faith comfort you.

Why not post on nonreligious threads? Why try to instigate ugliness in the Christians? Blessings.
