People keep saying "Go read what Paul had to say" or, "In Matthew he says." Ummm, first of all there is no evidence the original apostles actually WROTE those books. Secondly, there is no evidence they had any sort of divine inspiration other than saying they did themself.

Divine inspiration is not something that can be evidenced.

The theories surrounding the authorship of the Bible are just that--theories. Even if the Bible was not considered sacred, it would give us so much incredible information about what life was like back then, and so much wisdom that surpasses time and understanding.

It is possible that the Bible was somewhat influenced by social commentary, and written to appeal to the circumstances of the time, however that gives us an idea of what the early christians were going through as well. It's truly a facinating topic. Take a Bible class and see what you discover!

You're right you can not prove divine inspiration...it is just that... inspiration. No one can NOT prove that people are actually inspired by a story that they hear that then causes them to change their thought processes or actions in a positive direction. There is inspiration from everything that can not be proven...that does not mean that it did not happen or that it can not be life changing. Paul and Matthew ACTUALLY walked with Jesus and heard his teachings and witnessed his death and subsequent resurection...they saw him. Now it's been 2,000 years and for us that is extremely hard to swallow right, so that is where faith comes in. Jesus whole message was that of love...living your life with other people as your focus and making this life that you have been given the best it can be not just for us but for others. He wants us to look to him as our example...he's taken the lead and he wants us to follow in his footsteps and believe in him and his message...that's it.
For you a verse may mean something different than it does for someone else and that's ok as long as it brings good to you and others. Jesus lived his life as a perfect example of how we too should strive to live. We will never be perfect but each moment with each new decision that comes our way we have a choice of how we are going to respond and what we are going to do...those things should be reflective of the teachings of Jesus if we believe in his message of love and acceptance. It really is quite simple...unfortunately we humans tend to make things much more complex than they need to be and we can turn a verse or a book in the bible and twist it to fit what WE want others to beleive.
So that is why we need to have our own personal relationship with Christ because you are an individual and your life is different than everyone else's. You are not going to have the same relationship with let's say your mom than one of your siblings has. It's unique...but the relationship itself comes from the same place a love for you as a person and member of the family as a child of that family.
I know that doesn't cover everything but that is really what should be the root of Christianity. If you are serious about learning more "fact" type stuff Lee Strobel wrote a couple of good books on that subject. "The Case for Faith" and "The Case for Christ". That may help you...it may not but it's worth a look if you are serious about proving or disproving what you believe to be true or not. I wish you the best on your search.

I do care about Ancient documents. Especially those like

1. The Donation of Constantine
2. Recordings from the Council of Nicea
3. History books describing one of the greatest cons of all time when a devot pagan uses Christianity to become Emporer and 1700 years later the masses are still duped!

You are 100% completely right!!! That is what we call "faith". Try having some faith and you will believe what we believe and understand why we believe it.

When you look at all the historical events, places and people in the Bible and compare them to historical books from a library you will see that there is no discrepency. It's the divinity of the bible that you and others are questioning. That when faith comes in the picture.

My theory is that people take comfort in knowing that there is a strict set of guidelines by which they should live their life. It protects them from the anxiety of actually having to think and reason out day to day activities. I don't fault anyone for needing this kind of structure. I attempted to follow this rigid way of life myself at one point but it wasn't for me. When my mother uses those kinds of things on me, I just kind of brush it off as her passing along advice that has helped her to be relaxed and comfortable in life. But, as we all know, everyone is unique and different therefore the same approach for you may not work for me.

you have the right to believe the way you do because of free will as does everyone. there is no way I will argue against your belief system as arguments never solve anything but cause hard feelings and anger while discussions are enlightening and cause people to use wisdom and knowledge to prove or try to disprove their beliefs. each individual must decide what is right or wrong for them. what is right for you may not be for me and what is wrong for you may not be for me. as long as each respects the others right to believe the way they want and as long as the laws rules and mores of the Culture and Society are adhered to this is the main objective.

What they really really need to do is live there own lives according to their own beliefs and standards....stop harassing others to convert to whatever group or religion they belong...just because we do not agree with these people doesnt mean we do not have our own standards, morals etc. just because we dont go bible punching, church etc. does not mean we are not good people.

To be honest the worst non-Christians are the Christians....they are quite hypocritical in certain fields.

I've always believed that you can have faith without imposing yourself on others, and it is not necessary to go to whatever church, meeting place etc. to prove it.

Matt sixteen-seeing Jesus in his kingdom meant pentecost. no longer his 2d coming. comparable think of in Matt 10 Hebrews-won't tarry-meant whilst God's time is sturdy. God would not prefer all people to parish and desires to furnish all people a metamorphosis so he won't come back a min. too quickly.

Just a book, so is the Koran and Torah. All just books written by man.

Nature is a much more reliable source.

Homer's works were written several thousand years ago. People still read his epics and find value them. Humans in the BC era were just as smart and creative as humans today.
