i wouldn't say one is better than the other...as a stylist i prefer foils but a cap is nice if your trying to blend a color and not make it look so drastic...but on anything longer than shoulderlength i would say foil is better..but shoulders and up is your choice...i just like the foil becuase i think it looks better, but i've used a cap a few times just to get a more blended color look!

Foil is much less damaging than pulling fine strands of hair, through a tiny hole of a plastic cap. Not to mention that you can control the amount of hair and precisely where you want thin or thicker sections of highlights. I normally highlight with 3 different complimentary colors, and that would be tricky using the old fashioned cap method of highlighting. I have seen fragile bleached hair get left behind when other Colorists have removed the cap...yikes! Foil is the best, no contest!

The way that you dye your hair does not matter. It's the product, not the procedure that is damaging to your hair. When foil is used, the color usually looks more chunky. When you hair is pulled through a cap, it gives more of an all over lightening than foil packets do. My mom is a stylist and I have been dying my hair for MANY years, I've done both and neither is better or worse for your hair.

The foil is better escpecially if you have fine or damaged hair because its not being pulled through a cap. When you use foil the look is more natural and when using a cap the look is more dramatic. If your hair is thick the foil is better to because you can even the color out more.

Cap. Foil came in the 80's. I used to be a hair model. Cap leaves you with many choices as to streak size, etc. You can even do it at home. I do it for my three daughters. Cost is part of the game. Foil is pricey.

My hair tends to tangle if I pull it through the cap. Foil is the safest option, as long as it's a profesional doing it.
I tried to teach my boyfriend how to do foils, and he messed it up badly!

It depends on your hair I get foil becuase I have curly hair. But if you have very straight hair then you gan get the cap. People with stright hair can get both curl haired people can only realy get the foil.

Foil because the color gets pressed on it and it stays longer.
