I do yoga as part of my exercise program but some of my church friends shun it. What about belly dancing?? Was it not once use in worshipping some gods??? So can christians do belly dancing??

I think a part of it is how much you buy into the philosophy behind the activity. Belly dance is in the bible - it is a part of that culture - it is a native dance - it isn't any different than learning square dance or cumbia. The art of Yoga - the stretches can be called anything, so I think your friends are over-reacting. It might be a good idea to find dout why your church is against these pratices if you are a member of that church. Christians belly dance, practice yoga, do Tai Chi, etc - and so do Jews, athiests, etc.

The tendency to seem flighty. To change without following through. I find this not only within myself sometimes, but also within many people I meet in the community. Every religion has good and bad aspects. I think Christians probably stick with one idea too long, to the point where if you find that to be demonstrably wrong, you keep doing it anyway out of a sense of loyalty. (Look at Bush, or the whole Free-Trade idea) We pagans tend to be the opposite, and fly toward the next idea with the wind. The Goddess cult survived European Christiandom... ok... It didn't it's a revival.... ok... Nothing survived at all, and it's all just inspired by Thelema, Spiritualism, and Theosophy... ok... There are some aspects that survived as Mesopaganism, but it was different than paleopaganism, and the new neopaganism... ok...

if you do these things without the religious connotation then you are not doing anything that is against the bible. Meditation is not against the bible. Yoga and tai chi are forms of meditation. Acupuncture, reflexology are just alternative medical practices that have nothing to do with religion and everything do with science. Belly dancing is a form of entertainment only. I challenge any christian to show me in the bible were it says this stuff is bad.

Think it is better you do it then not. Always go within. Yoga is a way to seek God. You clean your body and mind, this is not against His wish, it is what He asks from you. Ultimately it is all about conquering your fear. You need to go within, not not do something becasue someone tells you (are they healthy are they happy?? Are their decisions Love-based or fear-based)

Yeah foor reflexology, you need to clear the nadis. The 144000 in Christianity are people that clean there hearts first, but THEY ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE 144000 NADIS// (it comes back, there was a mosque destoyed irac with 72000 gold tiles// God does not withold the truth from some, it is told in many ways// What is described in revelations are also processes in the body. Ancient societies, native amaricans, they are not all wrong.)

Yeah get a grip on your mind (back in the bible they were more like warriors, the church just does not mention those verses because they are kinda clueless), yeah free yourself from toxins and emotional blocks, yeah keep your body healthy and do everyhting you do for God//

You want health and free flowing chi, in Jesus name amen//

Love

im christian and i still do yoga. most art we do today, whether it be yoga, belly dancing, painting, carving, woodwork, ect. was done at one point as a way of worshiping. christians are against worshiping other gods, you are doign yoga as a way to be healthy a fit, ur not doing it to a different diety then its fine. regarding this and other matters that you might not understand, id give u this advise. sometimes our religion doesnt make sense bc its been interpreted so many different times so if u are confused about other things ask a friend in ur religion and out side ur religion for advice and what they think of the matter and pray. its okay to disagree with somethings u dont understand and know u arent doing anything wrong - eg. doing yoga for exersice.

Ok I am a Christian and I do acupuncture. Acupuncture helps me with a health problem I have had and pain in my back. It has nothing to do with idol worship. I do not know if yoga ever had anything to do with idol worship - I really don't see how it could. I have done yoga in the past as well for exercise and see no problem with it.

I practice reflexology and I am a Christian. Most medical practices have spiritual origins associated with them.
They better not go to a western doctor then either, because 90% of medicine is rooted in native American herbology.

If you have so much reservation against alternative forms of exercise/health, I'd say keep away from it because all you'll be doing is doing yourself harm by doubting your actions and hence poisoning your system. Ultimately nullifying all the good that these practices may do for you. Stick to aerobics, swimming and western medicine.

I am a Christian. I do yoga without the eastern religion and meditation..when I do it, I listen to worship music, and meditate upon God.
I listen to enya but I am not NEw Age..I practice Tai Chi, without the taioism...Most of my fellow Christians think I am not truly saved...But I know that "God judges the INTENT of mans heart"..So I dont try to please everyone, just GOD...

There are things that I do stay away from though..Gotta be careful no to dishonor God.

The deepest roots of Yoga are in Eastern Mysticism and the Hindu religion.

One practicing Yoga might be just "in it for the exercise" and "overall sense of well-being" but they'd be getting those things from the inadvertant practice of ancient idolotrous rituals.

In essense, a Christian would be compromising his/her own faith.
