It depends on where you live and what sort of lifestyle you have. I live in Minnesota and highly value 4 wheel drive. But if you don't have to drive in the snow, then 4wd isn't such a big deal for you.

I'd get the car that is most practical for your lifestyle. I doubt it's the Rav4.

It depands on what kind of gas mileage you Mazada 3 gets. If it is onlt a couple gallons different I wouldn't bother because you need to recoop the cost of the the car and at say 5 gallons different at say 4.00 per gallon that would only be 20.00 dollars that you would be saving. The cost of the car is probably 20,000.00 so at 5 extra gallons saving 20.00 it would take 1000 extra gallson of gas to recoop your 20000.00 invest ment.

the Rav4 certainly gets very good mileage for it's size and 269hp engine. 0-60 times are around 7 sec. Impressive for an SUV of any size.

but- I'm not crazy about the vehicle. I hate the interior design, and there are still a lot of 'cheap' things about it. Look at the Mazda CX-7 instead.

If you need more space... why not just get a small/midsize wagon. An SUV is just a Station Wagon with big tires! I love my Ford Escort Wagon and will replace it with a 32/37mpg Ford Focus Wagon in a few years when the Escort dies.

Personally I really don't like SUV's because they are too big. even the small ones. I'm biased though because I will never drive anything bigger than my Mini Cooper.....until I have kids. I think you should drive what you want to drive. If you like your Mazda stick with that. If you need something bigger for lots of kids than a small SUV would be your best bet.

Ford Escape or Mercury Mariner are good and you can have then in hybrid. Mazda Tribute is the same car, but it doesn't came with hybrid.

I own an Isuzu Rodeo stick shift and I love it.

I say go ahead if you can afford it and have a little fun while you have to drive where ever you have to go....
