I am in UK for about 10 months and then I will move back to USA. Ideally I would like to buy something which I can use in states as well. I don't want to spend too much. I checked ebay and I am so confused. Please help!

The garmin nuvi is cool, but expensive.

I would say the Tom Tom, either 700 or if you can afford it the 900. They come with built in maps for a region, but new maps can be purchased and installed later.

I would suggest buying with Europe maps and then get the N America maps when you come back to the US.

Being in the UK, you will get to use ALL of the TomToms cool features, such as guiding you round real time traffic obstructions and speed cameras!

You are gonna love it there. Enjoy!

The garmin nuvi's are excellent. The 360 is still quite expensive but you can get the earlier models alot cheaper and they are still fantastic, much better than tomtom. You can get a worldwide map upgrade too.

Delorme EarthMate GPS. It connects to your laptop, has VERY THOROUGH info. About $100.

I went to NC (800 miles) and it gave me gas/food/shopping along the way. Heck, my mom's street was even listed (and she lives on a mountain off a dirt road).

Whatever you get, be aware of difference in power requirement for the two country. Get something battery powered might be a good solution.
