In our hearts we all desire peace, even radical Islamists act as they do because they think if the whole world is muslim an age of peace will come. If we all have this common motivation, why can't we just live in peace and espect each others beliefs?

Again I can only agree with Buddha. The anger I see between groups is so un-necessary.

I don't think that we are really different. And I don't think that it is really possible for people to respect eachother and live in peace unfortunatly. When times of peace do happen during a time when there is a lot of fighting, the peace is more welcome and enjoyable then it would be if we were peaceful all the time.

And also not everyone has that common motivation. Some people rather enjoy upsetting others for there own pleasure. Well, I guess that does mean that we do have that common motivation.

Because peace comes according to what each belief thinks is peace, which are not similar. Peace means following your own way of living and when other peoples' peace threatens your peace because you do not live the same way, you get conflict.

Under whose belief would you find peace?

Secondly, peace is not just non-violence. It also includes understanding what you do not know. This includes questions that come up in philosophy, science, theology etc....where people question why things happen as they are....and they come up with solutions that not everyone agrees with.

Lastly, we live in a world where people or groups of people are competing against each other for needed resources...for oil, for land to feed their people of family etc.

EVeryone does want peace ( I hope) but the question is, how will you attain it while pleasing everyone.

We may all desire peace but if some religious type think that a 6 month old can be a sinner, we are QUITE different.

You forgot to add Communists, fascist, democrats, capitalist, liberals, and conservatives.

Don't confuse basic human ideals with arbitrary beliefs. Everyone wants to be rich and happy and safe. But the belief systems interfere with that.

Pray to who ever you want to pray too, that is my opinion. Who is to say one god is better than another, hating someone because they believe in something else is just down right stupid. It is time for everyone in the world to just sit down and shut up and mind their own business. Damn, how stupid is it to hate someone because they believe in something that you don't? Whats next, you wear white after Labor day, I hate you for it. Sounds pretty stupid, but it is pretty much the same thing...

We don't all desire peace. We don't respect eachother. I'm atheist and I don't respect other viewpoints. Careful how you use important ideas like respect.

We differ on how to obtain that 'peace'. There is nothing wrong with standing firmly against those who use violence or cruelty to get their so-called 'peace'.

Apart from that, though, my answer is "I agree".
