Yes, it is somewhat normal. My dogs dont necessarly like a bath but they love to be clean. After I towel them off they love to romp and play!!!!!

Don't know but when I bath my two Lakeland terrier bitches they go mad for about 5 minutes chasing around the garden, rolling and generally charging around. I make sure now that they have a clear exit route from the bathroom to the garden now otherwise they end up doing an amazing impression of a rather wet wall of death run all over the sofa and other furniture.
The funniest thing was when I sent them both to a parlour for a shampoo and clip. For two days the fought like mad because they didn't recognise each other. I had to take them out into the forest to get covered in mud so that they could recognise each other's smell

The puppy probably thinks you're "playing" when you give it a bath...or it just likes to play with "mommy" (or daddy), which is how you are acting when you give it a bath.
Except...when you say "extremely playful", do you mean nipping and biting? I am thinking about a "dominant" puppy protesting his bath, but you did say he does this AFTER, so I think there is no issue there.
BTW, if your puppy likes to nip and mouth during play, teach him to chase a ball or play tug-of-war instead. Make sure a tug-of-war toy is not a material that will harbor germs and pests (don't use the old-fashioned hemp rope), or if that's the only thing you can find, wash it VERY often.

My lab puppy goes nuts after a bath too. Just so happy to be out of there. Usually runs and rubs herself up against the couch and rolls around on the floor, knocking over my kids on the way.

Puppies are supposed to be playful....I would rather they be playful, especially after or during a bath than miserable and scared. It is completely normal...my adult dogs are the same way.

That is completely and totally normal. There isn't a dog I know that is not playful after a bath.

Yes, it's normal. I don't the scientific reason for it. But for the past 3 dogs that I have owned after a bath they tear throught the house like monsters. I just like to think they feel good after one.

My dogs go crazy! I think it is similar to us taking a shower in the morning and feeling refreshed afterward! Plus if she happened to have any fleas, they would likely not bother her for a while after a good bath!

My puppy is like that...probably because they have been held in one spot for so long they feel the need to go crazy. I always give my pup a treat afterwards so she'll learn to love baths and grooming.
