CBT was very useful for me. I was one of those people who said, "Ahhh, therapy is useless. I don't have any problems that could be helped by therapy." So, when I tried therapy, it didn't help me. A couple of years later, I identified specific problems that I had and thought, "You know, it doesn't have to be that way. I bet I can change that through therapy." So, I went back to my therapist and specifically asked for CBT. It helped me change some irrational thoughts and debilitating paranoia that I had suffered from for years. It basically healed me. Talk therapy, and esp. CBT, is one of the best treatments out there, if you're open to it. I'd just like to add that you shouldn't think of it as a weakness to ask for help. The weakness would be in not getting help and letting your problem continue. Also, remember that this stuff is evidence-based, which means it's scientifically proven to work. Best of luck to you!

I have used some cognitive behavioral therapy techniques from the book "Feeling Good" by Dr. David Burns. I have found them to be very helpful, and at one time I was actually able to beat my depression and anxiety through them. CBT takes a lot of work, but it's well worth it!

the best CBT I had was not from any psychiatrist but wisdom from a 7 yo girl. I said to her 'Hey, your t-shirt is inside out!!' and she looked at me like I was daft and said 'SO What??' and went on with what she was doing happily.
And I thought, 'Well, yeah - she's right SO WHAT?' and ever since I have applied her little bit of CBT to any problem and if you 'So what' it enough you realise there really is very little in this life worth worrying about - problem solved! I think that is the essence of CBT. And its a therapy that has its place in the myriad of therapies, but its not the be all and end all.

It was useless for me. I had an eating disorder in my teens and was prescribed this. It didn't help me at all, I didn't like the girl, who was just training and I was just glad when my hour session was over. I'm not saying it is useless for everyone, I'm sure it does help some people but I think it depends on the councillor you get.
I recovered on my own several years later when I decided I didn't want to live my life like that anymore.

it can help with mild to moderate depression and anxiety, (think i spelt that right). I had severe depression for 3 years and it helped me when i came out of the deep depression and i use it all the time. it it a way of changing the way you think and retraining your mind. it works best when you write it down and make some real effort.
