When I passed a kidney stone, I swore to do whatever it took to never go thru that again. I did some research and learned that there are several possible factors that might contribute to the formation of kidney stones: a) too much meat in the diet, b) too much dairy, or c) not enough water. I cut back on the first two and boosted the third to 8 cups daily. I haven't passed a stone since, and that was 18 years ago.

Highly limit your salt intake. Salt generally will cause a kidney stone to either start or come back. Everyday, put a tablespoon of Lemon Juice in a glass of water and drink that. This helps to disintegrate any stones that may start to form. Cranberry juice will also help. Drink plenty of water, to keep your system regular. There are also some homemade remedies that can help, but can't remember them right now.

Orange juice.
I recently heard this on the news. I would assume also plenty of water but not too much water because processing water is actually hard on your kidneys.
