In one of my earlier questions today, someone commented that if I needed "proof" of god, I should read the bible.

Now, I am an atheist having spent the first 3 decades or so of my life as a christian. When I took my spiritual journey that eventually led me to atheism, I did use the bible as one source of my studies.

I concluded that the bible is a human-edited, socially-constructed document becuase it has been so editied over time that it can be nothing more than that.

For christians, how do you reconcile this and use the bible as proof?

I use the Bible to learn, not as proof. Faith is what i use for proof, because i have it i believe. We're meant to use the Bible as a learning device, not as a way to prove God's point. Faith in God means accepting God's point, the Bible teaches us how to resolve our wordly issues when they arise. It offers us a look into the history of Jesus and God's chosen people. It's not meant by any means though to provide proof of God's existence as that's what faith is for.

The bible came before all the religions that twisted God's word. The bible is true because God told the many people who wrote it what to write. How do we know that God is real and the bible came from Him? Well where else would it have came from and what else could have created the universe just the way it is? The bible was written in such a way that after a loooonnngg time, it can still be used today.

What about all the prophecies written 1000 years before it actually happened. There are roughly 900 prophecies in the bible and over 600 have came true so far. How many other books have done that? Yes the bible was written by man but was God inspired. When you were"saved" did you have any revelation from God? It has been proven that alot of the atheists who were once saved were false conversions in the first place. I'm not sure of the statistics but I will look into. Did you say a "sinners prayer" because someone told you it would make your life better? Just saying the prayer doesn't do much. It has to be a heartfelt life changing thing. We have to acknowledge that we are sinners and need a Savior. Also when you do accept salvation it doesn't make your life perfect. We are still human. We come under lots of attack. And we do sin. I hate that some Christians think they are perfect. I am a christian and I am far from perfect. I am a saved sinner being sanctified. I won't be saved til my feet touch those streets of gold!

Miracles interior the bible tutor no longer something because of the fact the observable information interior the actual worldwide is that miracles are a manufactured from human mind's eye. The bible is a e book, and something that a human can think of can exist in a e book, that's understood in a variety which would be communicated between human beings.

I request you to read 2 thimothy 16 :17. The bible and Quran or what ever religious books, whatever religion, all are aimed at giving people a sense of belonging , sense of hope, sense of security, and one ready made answer for most of the mysterious questions concerning universe, death , birth , and human sufferrings. Nothing is a proof of a anything. If any book or any ideology or any thing which fullfills the above purposes , it is good. You have to understand the fact that , there is nothing true. If there was anything true rest all would have perished. Only a very negligible minority of people adopt another religion becuase they think truth is there. Rest all the people follow the religion in which they are born. Religion came into existense becuase human always feared some thing, wanted to belive in something. We practice some sort of religion everyday. When you travel in a Bus , you belive in the Bus driver, You belive the person who Engineered the Bus, But all this doesnt mean that Bus will not end up in an accident. Spouse belive each other and that doesnt mean that one of them is not sleeping around. Its all a matter of belief. Now aethist , they BELIVE that there is no God. That itself is a belief. As long as you dont cuase any harm to anyone becuase of your belief or kill someone becuase they dont belive in what you belive , its is perfectly fine. Belief is the core of Universe.

Using the Bible to prove the Bible. Then the Egyptian Book of the Dead (which is a book about Egyptian Gods) must prove there really are Egyptian Gods/Goddess'. All those depictions of Celtic Gods/Goddess' proves they exist too. Wow, can you imagine how much we could prove to exist by just writing a friggin book and claiming Divine Inspiration?

Christianity, like all other religions, is the creation of men. Men err, and since the Bible was written by men, it has errors. For example, if I remember correctly, the Book of Daniel mentions the Persian conquest of Babylon. The Book of Daniel states that Darius was the Persian king during the time of the conquest, but it was actually Cyrus. So much for the inerrancy of the Bible!

The Bible proves everything, as a matter of fact Isaiah is coming true right before our eyes.

They don't. They take it on faith. They don't do research, or they'd find out how paper-thin their mytholigies and fairy-tales really are. They seem to be content to let their preachers do their thinking for them and follow along bleating.

Excellent point.

Those "read the bible" answers are pathetic.

Why don't we change the spelling to: Buy-bull?!?
