The extent of the damage will depend on the product used to highlight your hair. Highlighting can be done with color instead of bleach. Colored highlights can be less damaging, however, I use CHI bleach in my salon and it works really well, regardless of race. I also recommend a good conditioner after any color and shine products to enhance the highlights! Cosmetologist =o)

Highlights can damage you hair depending on the process and tecnique. Choose a stylist that uses a foil techique and Farouk Products...particularly the CHI color line. These products do not contain the harsh chemicals found in other products. They are completely safe for pregnant women, unlike some others. The hair will not be damaged with the gentel foil technique. Try it and enjoy!

If you buy a cheap bleach and do it yourself, yes it will damage you're hair.
If you go to the hair salon, and let them do it, or get a good quality product when you do it yourself.
Also, once you've highlighted it, use a oil based conditioner, preferably leave in, regularly, to prevent damage.
Highlights are actually very safe, as it only colors some of the hair, not all of it.

Yes it will damage your hair, but my concern would be how is it going to look with your hair color and skin tone?
It may not look good. I have learned the hard way to not do anything at home. I go to a reputable salon whenever I have anything done to my hair.
