A sony cybershot,i guarentee you wont be dissapointed,it has a built in rechargable battery, when fully charged it lasts ages,to be honest with you the only complaint i had with mine was the memory on it,but ive just brought 2 512mb memory sticks for £7.99 each,a real bargain, the camera has a metal caseing not plastic like a lot of cameras,i had a olympus digital camera and by the time i took about 10 pictures the batteries had run out,so i got it exchanged and the same happened again,so i had a full refund, with the sony you have none of the problems of batteries, theres a display on the screen saying how much time is left in the battery,so you can just plug it in and recharge it,it can also be used as a video camera, the model numbers DSCP200,if you need no anymore just email me and ill let you no.

I had this exact same question a couple years back. I spent days researching eBay, bidding on twenty different cameras without winning one, than searching website after website. Nothing turned up. Then Mom bought a camera for eBay from traderjims.com, and tada! my search was ended!
Get a SONY (with rechargable battery included, and charger)
My sister and I each got one from
http://traderjims.com/
for only $100. It was used, but came with recharger ($70 online) and battery. It uses floppies and can take 15 second movies. The ONLY bad thing is how big it is, you can't put it anywhere except hanging from your shoulder in a bag. But that way you won't lose it ;-P
Plus, the battery lasts and lasts! We tried an hp 200 series with digital this-and-that for $200 and the batteries lasted like one minute! We've had ours for one year, and is it a reliable cam!!
However, Trader Jim did say we bought his last camera. You might be able to find a higher quality Sony online. Just remember, look for two things:
--namebrand SONY
--recharger and rechargable batteries (if not included, and it takes only AA or AAA, you can get these at Walmart for $10)
Hope it helps!

Check ConsumerReports.org for Camera review. They provide good suggestions for camera in different categories.
After tons of research on Internet, few month ago I bought a $278 Canon SD600 for holidays and traveling photos. It's excellent, the quality of pictures are sometimes even better than my another $600 camera which was bought for selling items on Internet.

It all depends on many things. There is no such thing as the "best" digital camera. Otherwise everyone would have it. If you're going to buy digital stick with the traditional camera companies (ie. pentax, nikon, cannon). The main question you need to ask yourself is how much you're willing to spend on this camera. Then you can start looking at what cameras are best for the price range you're looking at.

there is no one answer, there are a broad range of camera's available and each has its own good and bad points.
The best plan is to go into a camera shop and try several, discussing each with the assistant, then make a shortlist of what features you want, which camera's you liked and research further on those.

this question has been asked about 1,000 times. So- start by looking at other answers.
for your needs- any camera will do. Stick with a name brand- and you pretty much get what you pay for.
Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Fuji,
Nikon, Pentax, Olympus and a few others.

NIkon. My dad has one and we have never had trouble with it. Great pictures, zoom features after shots taken, good quality. If you are still confused your best bet would be to go to a camera store and they can help you find what camera will best meet your needs.

Since you did not mention a dollar amount, I will presume that you have some good money to spend.
Consider the Hasselblad H2D-39 Digital camera. It's perfect for taking breathtaking pictures. Here is a link to the camera

Oh, by the way, it costs $30,000. Also, if you buy it - may I borrow it? Thanks in advance.

Choose the best one by deciding what you want to do, how much you want to learn, how far you want to progress and how much you want to spend.
Go to http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp and see what they select for you.
Or, choose the one that the salesperson in the store knows and likes. You can get help learning your camera if you buy it from someone who knows what they are talking about.
