Polly may think she wants a cracker, but you will want to avoid giving any to her. Saltines are high in fat and salt and can cause fatty liver disease and kidney dysfunction.

If you want her to live a long life and be healthy, you will resist the urge to feed her foods that can cause her health problems and offer her healthy treats instead.

If you buy the fat and salt free kind of Saltines, just a small bite will suffice and not an entire cracker.

Free Bird has this one dead on.
A bit of a salt-free Saltine cracker won't kill her, but there is very little nutrition in a saltine. I mean why bother?
Try and offer her something a bit more packed with nutrition: a bit of carrot, or broccoli...something with some vitamins in it.

Jess XOX's answer about rice for birds is wayyyy off.
Brown rice is excellent for birds and as is wild rice. White rice is okay, but nearly as nutritionally packed as the brown and wild variety.

Jess, please read these links.
I regularly put rice in my parrot's food and they love it. There is no scientific evidence pertaining to the "dangers" of feeding rice to birds. As a matter of fact, there is a bird called a "Rice Eater" who's diet consists primarily of rice.

so next time you have the urge to give your bird a saltine, why not cook up a little rice for her? She'll be healthier for it.

Sure you can, Crackers are fine for all sorts of birds. Though anything made of rice, could cause serious problems on the lil guy, even death. But a bit of Saltine cracker wont hurt :-D

No. While all living beings need regulated amounts of sodium in their systems, too much salt can lead to a host of health problems in birds, including excessive thirst, dehydration, kidney dysfunction, and death.
