Yes, it is absolutely hypocritical of them to do that. And you know the people who drive across the border are usually the ones on social assistance. So they are basically using socialist dollars to buy from a capitalist. Shame!

We are taxed to death on those items, guess that is why. We even have a tax that is charged on top of the regular taxes on Gasoline. The Canadian government has spent more time and money on trying to crack down on cigarettes and Alcohol smuggled from the USA then they have bothered spending to try and deal with the reason people are buying them. a pack of cigarettes in Canada is now just under $10/package.

Ummm - No we don't..... even with the exchange so close right now we aren't going to make a special trip JUST to buy cigs and booze.... especially when if you aren't there for 24 hours you have to pay duty to bring it home...
I have a question though? Why do you all from Detroit come to Windsor to drink when you are 19 since you can't until you are 21 there??? HMMMM there is something to think about!!!!
AND when the US $ was so great all Americans used to come here and SHOP SHOP SHOP and get crazy deals.... i think you might just be bitter because now we get a turn ha ha ha... although when you factor in all the details....we aren't saving any $.. at all.... I have no clue what you are talking about.

It's really a simple matter of physics. We're trying to keep the continent from tipping over. Someone has to counter balance all the Americans comming here to buy perscription medicines.

Yes, but people want to have their cake and eat it too. Since the U.S. dollar fell and the Canadian dollar got stronger, there's less incentive to do that, but with the stuff that's taxed very heavily, it's still there.
Canadians who border-jump for booze and smokes should try living in the States for a while and see how they like it. Everything has a price, one way or another. :-)
