I would have to say either AVG Free Antivirus or iTunes! The anti-virus program is excellent and is completely free for home users, and iTunes is a free download from Apple's website that allows you to purchase tons of music, movies, and videos!

I really like Adaware. It's great for a entry level spyware protection. free udpates. I really like dowloads.com because you can test out a lot of software some of which is free. You get to see reviews and screen shots so you know before you download.
