No it is not - and it is essential. 99% of the problems that cause people to go off the deep end are related to people not reading the policy small print, and not taking some simple steps to understand what they have bought. If you do not understand any part of what you have bought you really should ask. Dare I say, if you buy insuarnce from a travel agent (and despite what people say, they have been selling the stuff since Thomas Cook was a boy, so they do know a bit about it) you should get a simple interpretation of what it is about and a few extra useful tips. Contrary to popular belief, a good travel agent will sell the stuff either at the same price as or just a tad over the average online price. Whatever you do, whatever you do - PLEASE do not start travelling without proper travel insurance.

No it extremely isn't any longer - and it extremely is considerable. ninety 9% of the matters that reason human beings to bypass off the deep end are on the subject of human beings no longer reading the coverage information, and not taking some ordinary steps to comprehend what they have offered. in case you do no longer comprehend any component to what you have offered you extremely could desire to ask. Dare I say, in case you purchase insuarnce from a return and forth agent (and inspite of what human beings say, they have been advertising the stuff considering Thomas cook dinner replaced right into a boy, so as that they do be attentive to somewhat approximately it) you are able to desire to get an common interpretation of what it extremely is approximately and a few extra sensible coaching. opposite to correctly-known concept, a sturdy return and forth agent will sell the stuff the two on a similar value as or purely a tad over the properly-known on line value. despite you do, despite you do - PLEASE do no longer start up traveling without suitable return and forth coverage.

I think travel insurance is a good idea if you are going to places that have increased crime. I've bought it for trips to Peru and Russia, and I ended up having my carry-on bag stolen in Lima, and was able to get $800 back to cover the cost of replacing the contents. It was a very easy process for me, but that always depends on the insurance provider!

It's really just about peace of mind. I wouldn't get it going to say London, but it came in very handy in Peru.

Sometimes it may seem like a rip-off, but, it is actually a minimal expense when traveling. I have had to cancel in the past and had no problems collecting. The fact you gave up does not mean it was a rip-off.

My dad had trip insurance for a trip to Europe and when wife became ill, the insurance saved them big time!
Not sure what your claim was, but if I were taking a cruise or international trip I would get trip insurance.
Check out travelguard.

Oh yes.. It is a rip off. People usually buy it as a gamble as to whether they will die or not during the trip or as a result of a plane crash.. Many many people get hooked into buying and they do not realize that they are being cheated

Not if you break your leg the day you are supposed to go on honeymoon for 3 weeks to Hawai or somewhere far.. However...... If you can prove that the hotel does not charge the travelcompany for more than 3 nights for example and the airline does not charge the returnflight, I don't think they can charge you for it...
But not many people know that!!

I think it's worth it for expensive trips to other countries, especially if weather can be a potential major factor. (Caribbean, etc.)

It does seem like a rip off for simple domestic travel, however.
