You don't smoke tobacco through a hookah. A mixture of shisha and hashish is the common blend smoked through a hookah. While exposing your lungs to carcinogens of any type can potentially cause cancer, typically there are less additives in shisha. The chemicals and other additives in cigarette tobacco are mostly preservatives to promote shelf-life. Good for you for seeking knowledge... don't let these people who will answer your question blindly without knowing the facts make your decisions for you!

ANY tobacco contains tars, carbon monoxide and all sorts of other nasty things that your lungs don't like. The hookah is simply a tool used for smoking the tobacco.

Tar is not an additive. All tobacco has tar.

Ever wonder what the flavor is made from? I wonder what happens when you burn artificial flavors.....

If you'd like a much safer nicotine high, you can try smokeless tobacco...its actually a LOT safer than smoking but still not harmless.
