Customer service is a fantasy. Like the tooth fairy and santa claus. And if you should get lucky enough to get a real person, chances are they don't speak your language so your screwed either way.

Real customer service is becoming a thing of the past. So many companies are hiring machines to take the place of people. In the US, we've already lost so many jobs overseas. Now we are losing jobs to machines. Not only is it frustrating for the person wading the phone system, its bad for working folk too.

Yeh really annoying, especially when half the time you just want to speak to someone anyway. So it takes about five minutes to be put through to someone and even then there is queue.
Having said that it does shorten queue times, as at least you will be speaking to a person that will know what you are talking about. And also it allows you to do somethings by phone, even though that can be annoying as you mention, it dosn't cost the company hardly anything, which in fact does save you money really.
But why religion & spirituality?

I am with you 100% on this. I just got off the phone with the bill payment section from my last surgery. When the recording asked me to give my latest insurance information, I said, "No, I would like to speak to a human being being". They already have my insurance information, but I was never given an option to tell them that they had submitted the information incorrectly. Geesh!!!
This question is fine for this category if it helps your "spirit" to vent. LOL

Those telephone systems do have a positive value to the caller and the provider; but they also have a limitation which their limitation is what the asker seems to presently here be complaining about,

Money.
Computers don't call in sick, need medical coverage, workmen's comp, braces for the kids...
Computers don't need cubicles, furniture, heat, potable water, restrooms, lunchrooms, parking lots.....
So the human element gets kicked to the curb.

I'm willing to bet that the guys who program them don't agree. I've never worked on one myself but the voice activated ones really seem intriguing to me. I like to play games with them. Most of them have easter eggs if you know how to activate them.

I agree. And those companies that DO have real people have their people in India! Lots of help there!

certainly these are annoying to most of us. however, they do serve a function as real people need to be paid wages to take care of these situations. therefore the company would probably raise their rates to compensate.
