We have no contact. All we have is an address. No contact with mother, so it has to be something important.

The Mom said when he was older he could come see us but, now that he is old enough she has changed her number and has moved to a new place, so now we can only send things to his caseworker and they send them to him. We have never received anything. No pictures since he was three. Mom got pregnant with someone elses kid while he was in school, that is why they divorced no abuse or anything.

Gift certificate to the mall. Then he can get what he wants.

Are you sure HE wants contact with you two? Be careful, this just might backfire. Don't send cash - mom might take it. Since we don't know the exact reason for no contact, I can only assume nasty divorce. Mom might have it out for dad and intercept the gift before it can get to the boy. Is there anyone that can deliver whatever directly to him? Just a few things to think about. 13 yr olds are into sooooo many different things, I would say gift certificate, but be careful - mom could use it.

A gift card to Itunes (he almost certainly has an Ipod or MP3 player), or a gift card to an electronics store, or ask a 13 year oldish person around you (even just one walking down the street) what stores are considered "cool" for clothes right now and get him a gift card to that. Oh, a sport store might be good, cause whether he's into skateboarding, swimming, or soccer he can always find something at a sports store.

I have 10 nieces and nephews and I have gotten them Gift Cards to some store, something easy like Target or something like that. They get all excited about getting the gift card too. :)

The ages of my nieces and nephews are: 17, 13, 12, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 4 and 3.

How about an airplane ticket to come and visit you and his father? (And maybe a prepaid phone card so he can call you.) It is time that your husband re-established some meaningful contact - unless, of course, your husband abused the boy, in which case it's better to stay out of his life.

Kids at that age are very picky, but you could give him a gift certificate to AMAZON.COM or LLBEAN - most kids can find SOMETHING they like at those places. But the main thing is to get to know him - whatever it takes, including possibly hiring a lawyer.

gift certificates to the mall is the best bet. Or plan a day out with him - get tickets to a ball game or a concert that he would like to see. Make sure you also go out to eat so you have some talk time to get to know each other better.
Oh crap - I didn't pay attention to the details. Get him ballgame ticket that he can go to near his home. It wouldn't be the same as going with you or his father but he will still know who it is from.

At 13 nobody really gets you what you wanted because you dont even know what it is yourself. Gift Cert.'s to the mall, or an electronics store is what all my teenage cousin and in-laws get.
