it started with a sore throat then a mouth sore and now the skin on my hands is very painful and my hands have some red sploches and painful red bumps on them.

i know it would be better to go to a doctor instead of yahoo answers but i dont have insurance and i cant afford to go just to hear that it is just a virus that has to run its course.

i got it from my 3 year old son but i dont know where he picked it up. his has passed but is this kind of illness common?

Hand, foot and mouth disease, that is what it is called.. very contagious and since it is a childhood virus and your 3y/o had and now you have it.. Not much can be done it really has to run it's course.. When my now 4 y/o had it the Dr. had me use a mixture of Benadryl and Maalox to help sooth the throat and coat the sores and Tylenol with Codeine for the pain.. Go to the Dr. and have then diagnosis and see what they recommend to do.. Good Luck!! It is very painful and lasts for about 10 days!!
OMG.. come on.. Syphilis..no it is a common disease.. Just go to the DR. High Fever above 101.00 is very common...

don't listen to the previous post about syphilis..

this sounds like hand, foot, and mouth disease. it is caused by a coxsackie virus. it is not serious, but viral meningitis is a rare complication. so as long as you feel ok (you know, normal sick feeling: achy, tired, fever not too high) don't worry. if you get a high fever and very sore stiff neck, see a doctor. meningitis is not something to fool around with.

you are probably contagious though. so steer clear of daycares and pregnant women.

feel better soon!

I would suggest going to the local urgent care clinic - they offer free service to people without insurance. I doubt you will get a proper diagnosis through these pages.

your son had the same thing? and now you have it? honey, not going to a doctor is irresponsible at this point. You obviously have something contagious, how many people are you going to curse with this infection?
