hydrocodone/acetaminophen

Generic Name: hydrocodone/acetaminophen

Brand Names: Vicodin, Vicodin ES, Anexsia, Lorcet, Lorcet Plus, Norco

Drug Class And Mechanism: Hydrocodone is a narcotic pain-reliever and a cough suppressant, similar to codeine. The precise mechanism of pain relief by hydrocodone and other narcotics is not known. Acetaminophen is a non-narcotic analgesic (pain reliever) and antipyretic (fever reducer). Acetaminophen relieves pain by elevating the pain threshold. It reduces fever through its action on the heat regulating center of the brain. Frequently, hydrocodone and acetaminophen are combined to achieve pain relief, as in Vicodin and Lortab.

This is a prescription drug and should not be taken for a headache or stomach pain. It should be taken only on a doctors order...............

It is a very strong pain killer that I have been given for after surgery. I would not take it for common everyday pains. It is pretty addicting...it is what many of the celebrities get addicted to when you hear about them being addicted to pain killers.

Take 4 ibuprofin and call me in the morning.

acetaminophen and hydrocodone

It is a mix of your basic over the counter tylenol and a controlled substance for pain. Used only when necessary it is fine to take. Know that in the united states it is illegal for anyone to transfer the rx to anyone else. (sorry had to add that) But hey if your in pain take it. And if the pain doesn't go away in 3-4 days go to the doctor. :-)

It is prescribed by doctors as a pain killer. Everytime I've had surgery I was prescribed Vicodin. I don't think it should be taken for minor pains though, just major pains (ie surgery). Ibuprofen is for minor pains.
