I've been an Atheistic Agnostic for about 5 years now and I've never been happier in my life. When I denounced that God exists, or that Jesus was any sort of saviour, my life got a whole lot better. I didn't have the doubt or the drama that I got from religion. I lived my life trying to do what I feel is right and to not hurt anyone else. I know few religious people that live by these standards. I hear people preach, but when it comes down to it they often fail the practice.
I don't feel that anything is missing in my life, nor that there is any need. I'm not into wanting a father figure in my life and I feel that I am far fortunate than many others (religious or not). There is nothing in my life that has happened to make me believe otherwise and it seems that most people that DO believe in their religion believe out of fear. I'm am by all terms the worst type of Atheist to all religious people. A happy one.

I've thought about the death issue a lot. Back in my 20's it really bothered me until I came up with this one conclusion that made me feel a lot better.
I didn't worry that I didn't exist before I was born, so I won't worry that I don't exist after I die. It's my own philosophy on death. I look at death now as a long awaited rest.

This is my edit added to my final answer.
A lot of people still don't seem to understand why I'm happy with my life. Yes, I'm Atheist, I do not believe there is a God and I am happy. First I get the typical Christian response.

true happiness is love How many ppl love you?? even to give you eternal life.. God does.. "
1. I don't want eternal life. If God is out creating people it must mean that there is a lacking in his existence of some sort. Meaning that his eternal life must really suck to need people to worship him and say how wonderful he is.
2. I love and have been loved by others. I have a healthy relatioship with my girlfriend and my family. When I die I don't need love to be eternal. I'm just happy when I have it.
3.I don't need money to make me happy. I don't need cars, big house, or a church to go to. I've found happiness in simpler things and try not to assume that I Deserve things in life.

4. I said I'm Atheist. Few people realize that though Atheists don't believe there is a God, that it doesn't mean they don't believe in anything at all. I believe that we are spiritual beings living a physical existense. To go further, through my own personal experiences, we spiritually exist outside of time. I've also come to the conclusion that finding answers about your existence isn't about having hard evidence to prove to others, but to seeing truth for yourself. There is no way to convince people something they can't see themselves.

5. Happiness comes from being content. I learned that people try to find things to make themselves happy. "ie. high paying job, big house, big car" If they can honestly be happy by those things then I say the more power to them, but I usually find that these are people trying to shoot themselves from miserable to happy in one shot. To be happy you have to first be content and to be content you have to stop attaching yourself to things. Once you've reached that you can spend more time enjoying what you own without looking at what you should own next.

Congratulations.
My life is not perfect - I have moments of happiness mixed with moments of sadness.
But not believing in God allows me to be proactive about the things that make me sad - which I try to do.
Taking responsibility for my own life - and my own happiness - is the best decision I've ever made.
Not believing in God makes me a better person, I believe. But I wouldn't say that's true of everyone.

Yes, I agree that we Atheists can be truly happy. Belief in God does not generate some mystical happiness that only theists can have.
I think a lot of theists think we are sad because our outlook on death.
I am not happy that we will eventually die, but I am happy that I am here now and I do make the most of it. I do not sit in a corner crying about my eventual death. Actually, even death is not that scary.. We die and that is it. We do not experience the fear, or loneliness of an after death, it is just like before we were born. If given the choice I would prefer a much longer life though.

I was happy as a person of faith, but I never felt as empowered as I feel now that I am a secular Humanist. I gave up the comforting fiction of divine love and posthumous rewards and embraced personal responsibility for my actions, here and now, and the preciousness of life, here and now. There are different levels of happiness. Happiness can be mere physical pleasure. Letting go of my superstitions has opened up doors to a much higher happiness than that. Happiness that comes with knowing that you can face reality, as frightening as it sometimes can be. Happiness that comes with knowing that, because there is no god or angels to swoop down and rescue us, it's important that people support one another. I feel a sense of brotherhood (kinship) with my fellow humans that I never felt before. Letting go of blind faith in an ancient and often random and contradictory system of beliefs has allowed me to focus on living a truly moral, fulfilling, and useful life. And that is the highest kind of happiness.

Hey, whatever floats your boat.
I grew up with basically no religion. Went to Sunday School was I was about 6 or so. But other than that, nothing. I don' t have an urge to go to Church or anything, but I like to talk to people who go and ask what it does for them. I feel like I am still a good person without having to go, and I see people who do go to Church and how they've turned out... So it's all relative.
Plus overly religious people scare me. Remember that woman from that Mom-swap TV show? "YOU ARE NOT A CHRISTIAN!" Haha.

I agree wit you 100%. The power of religion comes from the fear of death. I have heard many people say - "yeah, it sounds like BS... but, What IF it is true???" and that is why they go to church.
I have denounced all forms of religion, and the belief of a higher power - and I have never felt better, and more in control of my life!

In regards to ones beliefs, anyone can be happy. Many people who believe in a god are happy, and many are unhappy. Many people who don't believe in a god are happy, and many are unhappy. To each their own.
It is great that you feel happy. Myself, I became a lot less bitter about life after becoming an apostate.

It sounds to me like you are trying to convince yourself of this self proclaimed happiness. I truly hope you can find a way to spread some of this Happiness in a constructive manner. Of course people feel happy when there are no rules...But just remember, you HAVE already excepted Jesus as your savior, he's still there with you whether you changed your mind or not. Once you let him in, he's there for life. You are a lucky man to have such a good friend as Jesus.

Obviously many people believe the way that you do. I personally do believe in God but not out of fear but rather the clear revalation of His presence. I therefore must qualify as a religious person in your eyes. Let me asure you however that your "type" of atheism makes no difference to me... but I believe that it matters to God. I believe that satan felt the same way you do... he too thought he was right and needed no part of God. Unfortunately for him, he has no chance for a savior. You still do.
I'll pray for you!

YES. Its one of the things I noticed while a christian. Atheist and Agnostics were more comfortable with themselves than I. I was trying to please a perfect God, they were trying to improve themselves for themselves only. I initially perceived that as the result of their selfish godless mentality. but come to see I would rather spend eternity with atheist and agnostics than with Christians.
