Get a metal breadbox that sits on your counter or a rubbermaid container that is made to fit a loaf of bread, http://www.onestopshopcatalog.com/3800ntwht.html. This will cut down on moisture and help prevent mold.

Freezer.
My wife buys a huge amt of 'day old' bread from the local bread store (instead of buying from regular grocery.
And will fill up half of the garage freezer with bread.
Btw, day old bread from 2ndary stores is up to 80% cheaper. And is nearly as good as storebought.
Btw, storebought is often already 1-4 days old already.
Grocerys often sell to secondary stores all bread that is at least a certain # of days old... locally its 1-2 days max.
I would presume that double wrapping the loafs is probably the best non-cold way to delay mold?

I put mine in a "bread buddy" a rubbermaid type container. There are some holes in the bottom (the bread is still in the bag) that lets it breathe but doesn't produce any moisture. Bread stays fresh twice as long! I found mine at a local department store.

put them in a tupperware or any airtight container & store in a cool dry dark place
an extra step for this is to toast them before storing
mold needs 3 things to grow- light, moisture & air
ideally the best way is still to freeze /refrigerate them

Wrap it up as tightly as possible.
I also add a saltine cracker or 2....seems to absorb the moisture.
