I don't, but wonder why some people protest them.

I wonder if people complained about Dutch windmills years ago. I think they are beautifull and every time I look at them I think that is free energy. You don't often get something for nothing. I sell wind turbines so some might say i'm bias but I have been making wind turbines since I was a teenager.I'll bet the people who object to them have plenty of money to pay their energy bills and couldn't careless about global warming.

A rotating mass such as a wind generator will produce sounds.. emenating from both the rotor cutting through the air and also the gearing utilised before the energy is transmitted to the electricity generator at the end of the line. So yes, they are noisy, but I wouldnt like to say they are generally intrusively noisy - a subtle differance.

As for the 'blot' on the landscape, I dont think so. They are very photogenic. The energy delivered by these devices is acute generation - its used on the day from resources also used on the day and the waste product from the action of the generation process (generally the creation of the 'noise') is also produced on the day........... we DONT have to dump the aftermath into pits or into rivers....... we DONT leave a problem for someone in 100 years time - the energy is harnessed, used, and any byproduct is also imparted onto the user (as noise). What better way to be unselfish and not leave problems for th efuture than to have it all sorted in one instant.

Also at end of life all we have is the issue of some concrete foundations to either remove or reuse for a new generator.

Its totally sensible in appropriate locations.

I think they are neither ugly nor noisy. I live very close to a group of wind turbines - can actually see them from the bedroom windows, and regularly pass within metres of them.

In fact I think they are rather soothing, almost majestic. And even though we all know they don't really add colossal amounts to the National Grid, they don't take anything away either.

I think they are necessary. I guess some people think like this 'Oh look at that lovely hill. I'd hate it if that was covered in wind turbines. I much prefer the coal burning power station on the other side, because even though it's killing us all along with the planet, I can't see it, so I don't have to think about it'.

Noisy - no! When the wind is blowing strongly, the noise of the wind moving other objects (rusling leaves for example) is great than the swoosh from the turbines.

But I do think that they blot the landscape. Still, wind energy (and renewables) or nuclear energy? at the moment, we need to make a choice!

I don't know if they're noisy, I've never been that close to one, but i really can't understand people protesting on the grounds that they're ugly. I actually think they add interest to the landscape and look pretty impressive.

I find them quite beautiful. They're not that noisy.

The issue is that they're a very low density renewable energy, and the ratio of energy produced to damage done to the landscape (they're not ugly, but installing hundreds of them sure ruins a beautiful landscapce) is rather high.

Better to have solar farms of photovoltaic panels. Better yet to build huge solar towers (like the 750m / 2100ft for EUR 250m project they have in Spaion) - not that ugly, and at least these can produce maybe 200 or 300MW, i.e. one third of a nuclear plant, so becomes credible.

Its typical, people complaining about the wind turbines.
Give them a choice, wind turbines or a Nuclear power station and I know which one they will choose.

The problem with wind turbines is that they are poorly designed and so birds sometimes fly into them and die. That is the fault of the design engineers.
