In all honesty, why do you feel it is your duty to convert me to your way of thinking?

Why do you pound on my door uninvited, assuming that I want to hear what you have to say?

I must mention that not only is it Jehovah's Witnesses doing this. I've had them all stop by.

If I am willing to not push my atheism on you, why is it that you can't show me the same respect?

Lady Di-USA....and if they don't stop by in the first place, then they give me no reason to be annoyed.

beagirl40...of course no one will convert me. I possess free will. I just wish the people who consider it their duty to change me would go volunteer at an orphanage and leave me alone.

AMEN! Christians ***** and whine when non-theistical evolution is being taught in schools but these same douchebag Christians think it's not wrong when somebody comes to their door.

And like I said on other answers relating to this topic of religionists going to other people's doors: This is a free country. We have the freedom of privacy, which is constantly invaded by religionists that automatically assume that they have a right to OUR mailboxes, fenceposts, and doors.

As much as you like your lord, and savior, don't assume that we also like him that much either. And also don't assume because it's for your Lord, it's automatically OK to invade our privacy.

This is 2006. You can tell people about your lord in other ways.

Hi,

I am in the religion and spirituality q&a because i am interested in these subjects.. I do not pound on your door, and believe conversion is a mind/body process that very few have started..

Wondering what you do in this section other then kinda pounding and doing the opposite. like I do not believe in something, say chess is worth playing, do I go to chess Q&A to tell people that all the time?? Do you need (interaction with??) Christians to define your stance/get an identity?? Does atheism mean being against something only?? Don't you get tired going, no i won't believe the whole time??

You are willing to not push atheism? Why are you in religion and spirituality. Is atheism then a religion??

Spooky, Christians are not perfect, but just because people are not does not mean they are better or more tolerant (to answer another one of yours, my ex was jewish, have black blood, live in caribbean coast of hispanic country, so lots of blacks and hispanics and people from all over, what else was there, Is atheism the only way out of hypocricy?? was that the point??/ I know Christians do not always follow Jesus, and sadly some are way off, well gonna get a smoke getting bored here..)

I have never tried to convert anyone into anything and especially never by such a means that you have stated.
I believe that a true Christian has no religion at all.
I will never and never have tried to convince another human being to believe as I do.
I respect (all) people

I think those who may have approached you thus far are either trying to score browny points for their church maybe or are just plain o pushy people.
Who knows the heart of man?

In all honesty I do not feel a duty to do anything that has to do with my way of thinking or what I believe.

All I can honestly say to you is,there are some out here that have truly found a Love that is at times indescribable, and His name is Jesus.
Who doesn`t Love to talk about Love?

I know there is allot of Christians who cannot contain themselves when they have seen the light of Jesus and so desire to share.

It is a shinning light that goes out into the world.
It is suppose to light up dark places and without a hammer, and instead, with flowers.

I never assume anything, but Iam willing to always hear what another has to say, and can be trusted with such information, and without prejudice and ending in Peace*

In the ministry, I've never heard someone pound on any door.

I've knocked, I've ranged the door bell, I've even respected "day sleeper" signs.

Why do I "knock" on your door uninvited?

There are several reasons.

The first reason has nothing to do with you.

It is my love for Jehovah. Love for God, means we obey his commandments.

Jesus when from village to village, Paul when door to door.

It is my love for my neighbors.

We may be bothering you, but I can tell you the other side, Each month I have people who didn't know I was coming to their door thank me.

I know of several occations where Jehovah's Witnesses have saved a person's life because we came unannounced.

We do not go to convert anyone.

Jehovah place life and death before us all,

It is your choice which you will choose.

You don't offend me if you are not interested.
You don't offend me if you slam the door when I leave. (Matt 25:31-46)

I know people who've told us to get off their porch and never come back, who are witnesses today, looking for people just like you.

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to get a householder to "change his mind". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

I have no desire to convert you to anything, BUT....

The way I understand the philosophy that the Bible is based on dictates that there is a code of honorable conduct that, if practiced by Humanity as a whole, would save the entire Human race from the pain and suffering that accompanies a world filled with wicked, arrogant beings. It stands to reason that once one has found this code of conduct and has devoted their lives to living by it that they should also seek to encourage others to practice it as well.

It's like saying that Humanity is a giant machine and each person is an engine in this machine. The "corrupt people are like ol' beater engines that work poorly, break down a lot, and lower the overall performance of the machine. What we want to do is repair those damaged engines with high performance well-oiled engines to increase the overall performance of the machine!

Now, my poinion of the Bible doesn't appear to be a popular one, and I find that quite disturbing, but it is deffinitely one of the more practical ones I've ever heard.

You know I don't have to try to convert you to do anything. As you know God has given us a choice.

Yes a choice to live the way we want to be what we want and to do what we want. The word choice is given to those who have a mind to think with from others that don't want to make a choice at all.

But seriously you are the only one to make a choice about your life, what you do and how you live and no one absolutely no one can make you or convert you unless that is what you want.

Do you understand!

I have no desire to convert you. Because I do not desire what I can not do. Only God can convert you.

For those who are pounding on your door, They are misguided. In the past God has used many to knock on doors to spread his word to all tribes and all nations. This has been accomplished for many years now. Those who are still pounding on doors are trying to get closer to God by doing what there forefathers have done.

I believe God does not want us to do this anymore. Is there really anyone out there that has not heard the message? Now is the time for us to look inward and remove the sin in our own lives.

I don't feel the need to convert you to anything. If you ask me about God I'll respond but I have no interest in beating anything down anyone's throat. The people who do that sort of thing have taken the scripture out of context, and by no means represent all of Christianity.

If a person has tried to convert you then they must think you are delusional and need God,but don't generalize and think that you are special. God wants Christians to share their beliefs with those who never heard of his love and not one who has rejected him and wants to continue in sin. Get it? People who deserve God's love and don't know him are special. I don't throw my pearls to the swine.
