I want to travel in a truck-camper so I can prepare my own food and sleep in my own bed.

Jeez, you ask a serious question and everyone wants you to look at Mapquest which tells you squat about what is really involved.

Mileage will be about 4500 miles. I could do it in 4 days (I've done the 2400 from Seattle to Anchorage in 48 hours), but I'm a really serious hard-core road warrior. I sleep a few hours a night in the car and then start driving again.

Add another 1000 miles if you divert to see some sights along the way.

If you are going to sleep 7 hours a night in the camper, grab a shower at a truck stop and stop for groceries every other day, then you're driving 10-12 hours a day and it will take you 9 days.

In the 48 states, it is easiest to park in interstate rest areas. Along the Alaskan Highway in Canada, there are free campgrounds every few hours, once you're past Dawson Creek.

Don't worry about 4WD, gas cans, extra tires, etc. Some people think the route is like it was in the 1960's. It is now all paved, towns/stores/gas every 200-300 miles. Us locals all carry gas, tow ropes, jacks, etc, so you don't have to. Just stand by the road looking helpless if you want someone stop.

Canada and a few states have rules about bringing some fruits and vegetable across the border. But there are supermarkets the whole way, every few hundred miles.

You can still get across the border with a DL and an SSN card, but that changes Dec 31. Then it requires a passport - which is better and easier if you have one, anytime.

April and September are the fastest month to drive the Alaskan Highway. No snow, ice, road construction or motorhomes. June-Jul-Aug can have numerous hour-long delays along the way and Dec-March are full-on winter. I've enjoyed those trips too, but I pack (and drive) more carefully when it can be -40F in the Yukon.

Bring good tunes. A lot of them. There's very little radio reception north of the border.

Have a great trip,
David

if you start in anchorage and go to tunica it would take 9622 hours and 4 minutes according to maps.com it is 4406.4 miles. It would take over a year to drive there. Unless you went 60 miles per hour the whole way and never stopped it would take 4406 hours which is 4 days . Regardless a long time

NO, that's not your birthday, not the daily number, and not the day of the month! Oh Yes, that would be the calculated mileage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
