It was very exciting...it happened 3 months after we started dating. 1 month after we started dating, he invited me to look at wedding rings. We found "the ring" at the first jeweler we visited, and my hubby picked it out. We both loved it. So then he arranged for a big surprise proposal - at a Christmas charity event in front of a huge crowd - but when he got down on one knee, it was as though we were the only two people in the entire room, in the entire world. We both shook for an hour afterwards, and it was truly an amazing feeling that I have never felt before. So special! We've been married 1 year - our anniversary is this weekend :) and together for a total of 3 years.

Estatic... and surprised! We were high school sweethearts and he proposed 6 1/2 years after we started dating (he went in the service, I went to college) :o) We have been together nearly 14 years now (married 6) and have 2 beautiful little girls to show from it:o)
I think the best thing we did was wait (I really thought I wanted to get married right out of high school - CRAZY!) until we were financially sound, bought a house, had great jobs, just had our lives in order... otherwise, I'm not sure we would've made it...?
Many of our friends who married young are already divorced - with kids:o(

My husband and I already had a daughter by the time we got married. It was more of a "are you ready yet?" sort of thing. Even with out the excitement and romance, it was romantic because I knew he loved me more that he had ever loved someone before. That was 5 years ago and if you read my bio, the first thing it says is happily married.
The first proposal I ever got (and accepted) was so romantic in a typically way. We were at a cottage in MI sitting by the lake on the beach with a fire going and a bottle of wine. He pulled out a round piece of metal (made from a coat hanger) and asked me to marry him. He said the ring was for me to choose, because I was the one who was going to wear it for the rest of my life. We got married. We got divorced 4 years later.

1st time, I don't remember, it was about 16 years ago.
2nd time, I didn't want to say yes, but I did to keep him from getting angry at me. A horrible cycle finally broken.
3rd time, he didn't propse per se, but when we discovered I was preggo, he said "let's get married". And we've been married almost 10 years. I wasn't exactly excited, but I was very happy when we were engaged.

I was so happy I cried! My husband did it totally naked at 4 a.m. lol He got out of bed and got the ring he had hidden in the closet. He said he did it like that because he knew if I was awake I would ask him what he was doing.

Not married yet, but I thought he was joking when he got down on his knee. That's actually what my response was - "You're joking, right?" After I realized he was serious, I was excited.

Ouch... don't get merried unless you know he's right...
I "compromised" and settled for my first husband and it was bad from the start.
My 2nd I was much more secure and happy about it. It is all good.
Trust your instincts... this is supposed to be for life!
