I believe if someone wants to kill them self then it should only be that person who does it, all by them self. The definition of suicide is; the intentional taking of ones OWN LIFE

come on people. go to the news site read the article then make an intelligent comment to what's ups' question as to your opinion about aiding the chronically depressed to commit suicide. have we gone too far? is the question. not that what's up is condoning the practice but only what is your opinion. so, stop the name calling and do your homework first! and, no, i don't think that it is the right answer to the problem.

Only read the headline but what a daft idea! Depression can be treated, it's often a case of helping the person to get off their butts and get out there into the big wide world.
A mixture of social interaction, therapy, medication, exercise and a healthy diet works wonders. Why kill them?

I think some of these answers are being a bit harsh on the question-raiser, who hasn't made any attempt to be positive or negative about the story, but simply point it out to us and ask our view.
I am in favour of allowing people who will die horribly anyway to choose to die with dignity, but I don't see that applying to depressed people.
Two reasons, firstly because depression isn't likely to be naturally terminal (ie they are not going to die horribly anyway) and secondly because they are unlikely to be able to make a sound judgement on the subject.

well i think euthenasia is a good idea - look at all the people suffering with chronic illnesses - cancer etc - that decline in front of their loved ones - it gets so painful to watch, and they lose all self respect - some people (like alice in emmerdale, for example) just want to go peacefully when they choose with those they care about. IIs this wrong?

This is a dangerous one.
Depression is curable, but many people don't see or understand that. They don't see the point in life, or trying, or fighting.
Personally, I think that it is better to do it in a hospital rather than at home, alone, in some dangerously awful way.
I don't think that it is "right", though, espeically when euthanasia isn't even legal. x

NO! I was totally depressed and agorophobic about 4 years back, but I turned things around and I'm glad I did. I often seriously contemplated suicide, came very close a few times, but I'm glad I didn't do it. If you help this person to die you'll probably get charged with murder, and besides, friends help each other to live, not to die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No they are not, I'm not sure what is to be honest but for me answering questions on Yahoo answers and chatting to chatbots seems to help.
