Do Muslim preachers (imams) go on tv or radio and beg for money?

Or, promise that if you give them money, God will give you money?

If not, why not?

The majority of Muslims live in poverty in Indonesia.

The vast majority of Muslims are neither Arabs nor terrorists.

no there is no programmes like this who want to give money they go to ( lijan ) or give the poor directly

Getting in touch with the lord is easy, it's called praying, and doing good deeds :) Forget about the hacks on tv! Donating to a good cause is a nice thing, but most of the money donated to preachers on the televison goes into their big fat wallets and there gorgous elaborate mansions, they say this is not true...it's true. You are right, it's a con, and a damn good one....but it sure aint the way to get to heaven lol. These preachers are nothing more then REALLY good sales men!

Islam promotes charity, donating money to the poor and homeless. Therefore in every Mosque there will be a charity box, whoever wants to donate can just put the money in that box. The money that is collected will go to the poor (usually the mosque will have a list of people who are in dire need for financial assistance) or for maintaining the Mosque.

We also have a fasting month, the purpose of fasting is to remind us (who have money) about the lives of the poor, how the poor feel when they do not have food. Therefore all Muslims perfectly know how the poor feels and they try their best to help them whenever they can.

There is another celebration called "eid ul-adha" which is a celebration where we sacrifice sheep and cattle and distribute the meat to the poor. The sacrificial meat cannot be eaten by yourself, that's the rule. You need to distribute all the meat to others. This date is a remembrance of the prophet Abraham's (peace be upon him) sacrifice that he wanted to make to Allah, his beloved son Ismail (peace be upon him).

As a Muslim I have never seen any imam begging for money on TV.

Because they usually come one after the christian preacher who's always begging and using God to scare people into giving them lots of money.
By the end of his programme people are broke.

They beg for people to promote violence in retaliation for the pope's remarks that islam is a violent religion.

And how are you going to accuse me of being full of hatred and bigotry when we criticize Islam, when you yourself have claimed that Christians are "as delusional as any other drug addict". I made a valid point in my argument, and your not going to accept it on the grounds that its offensive to Muslims. I'm a PhD, your nothing except the janitor to my extensive office.

No, I live in a Muslim country and I've never heard them do that.

Mind you, in addition to the 1/40th tithe called 'zekat', a lot of mosques do have collection boxes.

I imagine they do all right too. But there's really no equivalent to 'televangelism' here.

In the Muslim world the "people" don't have the power or the money. Muslim preachers go to kings to get money, and they go to the people to get suicide bombers.

I don't think so. Their motto (if it can be said that) is "Allah (God) will provide". In other words, their philosophy can be said to be akin to the meaning of the song "Que Sera Sera".
