Tomato Soup Recipe
This comes from a Mennonite Church cook book. It is simple but good and what I usually make when I get the tomato soup urge. I use commercial canned tomato juice and I do not add the salt because it has sufficient sodium.
4 servings 25 min 10 min prep
Change to: servings US Metric
2 tablespoons margarine
2 tablespoons chopped onions (chop fine)
4 tablespoons flour
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt (optional)
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 dash garlic powder
1 dash oregano
2 cups tomato juice
2 cups cold milk
Blend in flour, sugar, salt, pepper, garlic and oregano.
Remove from heat and slowly stir in tomato juice.
Bring to a boil and boil for 1 minute.
Stir hot tomato mixture into cold milk.
Heat almost to boiling and serve.
It is important to stir the hot mixture _slowly_ into the cold milk to avoid curdling.
Add a toasted cheese sandwich

I don't particularly like fresh raw tomatoes on their own, only with lots of herbs & dressing. But tinned tomatoes are brilliant for cooking and I always have them in stock. They add colour and liquid to any savoury dish and bring out other flavours too.
I love cream of tomato soup on cold days - real comfort food - although it doesn't taste of tomatoes at all!

I would say the english tomato is the tops, as the skin is nice and soft, and not rubberer like the spanish tomato. This is due to weather conditions. I also prefer my plum tomatoe as the best.

I love love love tomatoes! For me, personally, I like the roma tomatoes for cooking. Of course, beefsteak tomatoes are awesome for those summertime burgers. Last summer, my aunt grew some heirloom tomatoes, and those were absolutely delicious once I got past the coloration of them.

I like tomatoes, not quite love. I like tomato and basil sauce with pasta and I think sliced tomato in ham sandwiches is a treat!

all people in our kinfolk loves tomatoes whilst they are adults - (the human beings no longer the tomatoes) exceptionally beefsteak abode-grown. even my canines will consume 'em impressive off the vine if we don't watch him each and every 2d. although, we've an theory that the reason maximum childrens do unlike them, besides possibly the flavor, is that tomatoes appear as if something that may not finished yet - like a veggie embryo. and maximum childrens learn each and every thing on their plate and if evidently bizarre in any way, they won't consume it.

Thick-skinned, they are, the ones in the shops. The only way is to grow your own thin-skinned tomatoes, the yellow ones are the best.
