some immigrants work and pay their taxes for years and have children born in the u.s. one parent U.S citizen the other from other country .the father have a job working and paying taxes and paying child supports .married U.S citizen but he had arrest record some 18years back when he was younger.since sept.11 he was deported back to his country.leaving his children and wife. what will happen to those children now dad is'nt there for them.immigration should keep family together not separate them.i think if the dad is a one time offender and pay for offence .then depported him ,then he is pay twice for an offence.he had a drugs offence 20 years ago.

I agree with you on this one. He is paying twice for it. A one time offender is nothing, what about all those repeat sex offenders that keep coming back and are still here? Those need to be thrown in jail. But I agree with ya on this. If he was here and paying taxes, he had to be here legally in some form. Illegals can't pay taxes with out a ssn. So he had to be here legally. He should have been allowed to stay.

Tough example you have here. Brings tears to people's eyes. It is an example of very arbitrary changes in laws where no relief is contemplated for oversight. The Patriot Act and changes in the Immigration Laws did not contemplate exceptions to the "aliens with felony conviction" part of the law. It has effected many families in a similar way. These are not "illegal aliens" we are talking about here. These are "immigrants" with legal status. Problem is, they committed a felony act sometime during there residence in the States and are now liable to deportation.

Ain't nothing "fair" in life folks.

The sad reality is if they broke the rule in this case and allowed him to stay, they would be setting a dangerous precedent, which in and of itself would allow any other people who have criminal records from another country to appeal if they themselves were arrested and deported. I think if a man was here for 18 yrs legitimately, he had ample opportunity to become a legal citizen years ago. I don't think stories like that can deter us because I firmly believe we need to do something about the illegal population in our country as we cannot monetarily sustain the added strain, nor afford the security risk of undocumented people roaming around with no way of identifying them.
