The use of pesticides actually increases the risk of infestation in the long run. we have been using pesticides for so long now that the pests are immune to many pesticides, this leaves the crops open for infestation. If we didn't use pesticides, and used natural ways of ridding ourselves of the bugs they wouldn't be such a problem. Unfortunately it is more expensive short term to farm organically, so most farmers don't see the point.
