Ive quit smoking three months ago. I have noticed ive put on a few extra kilos lately. Ive heard about the Atkins Diet, does it work? Anyone out there with successful results.( Any other moderate diet suggestions???). Just want to lose about 5kg.

If you cut out any food groups, you'll be sure to lose some weight. The Atkin's Diet fast results come from depleting your glycogen stores, which are 1 part carbohydrate and 4 parts water! It's mostly water weight, and as soon as you have some carbs or sugar, you're going to fill up those glycogen stores right back and gain those 10 pounds again.

I wouldn't recommend it, it is not a healthy diet because you really need whole grains and carbs to be healthy. I'd just say to increase your fiber intake... just don't have any refined sugars (no white rice, white bread, English muffins, white pasta), if you get any of those things in the wheat version, make sure you read the label and that each serving has at least 3g of fiber! Somtimes 2g is acceptable, but try to go 3g and above.

Atkins isn't really intended to be a "diet", it's meant to be a lifestyle change.

If you're just looking for something moderate, my suggestions are: cut out sugar and starch, reduce or eliminate processed foods, concentrate on fresh, whole foods, drink your water and get your exercise.

Atkins does work but it's more for really over weight people. you should try exercising and cutting back on food intake

I know someone who lost 30 or more pounds on Atkins. She gained it all back after she stopped the diet. Atkin's isn't healthy. Exercise and healthy eating is the healthy way to lose weight. With Atkin's you don't need to exercise, so you will lose weight and still be so flabby, gross!! Need to exercise do cardio and weights to build muscle, be toned, lose weight.
