God is righteous. That doesn't mean He did not hate. He hated and still hates that a child of His would choose to forfeit the inheritance He has provided. In our case, that inheritance is salvation. The following scriptures refers to Esau as the object of God's hate because he is the symbol of rejecting his inheritance...God. It is the unpardonable sin, actually. The Book of Malachi is very short and very interesting. It tries, among other things, to define God as love and hate and will probably be of more help in answering your question than I. God bless you.
Malachi 1:2-3
1:2 “ I have loved you,” says the LORD. “ Yet you say, ‘In what way have You loved us?’ Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” Says the LORD. “ Yet Jacob I have loved;
1:3 But Esau I have hated, And laid waste his mountains and his heritage For the jackals of the wilderness.”
Romans 9:13
As it is written, “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.”

Hate is the opposite of love. Obviously you have never hated anyone or you would know what it is. It is an emotion, all people have emotions. If someone killed the most important thing in your life how would you feel? Think about that, and then you will feel what hate is.

hate is a strong dislike or displeasure. when people develop dislike against one another for whatever reason this mild form of disagreement can turn into the stronger feeling of hate. when some people develop hate this may lead to serious consequences such as murder, wars, and other types of conflict which lead to disruption of the peace and harmony which had previously existed between those envolved.

Christians are supposed to hate sin, immorality, true injustice. They are not supposed to hate people. Being a Christian is all about love. Loving like Jesus did. A much higher standard that society today. It is possible to "hate the sin, not the sinner"

it is not true that God is ONLY capable of love, although God is characterized by goodness, it is not his only character attribute for sure
God is glorified by His justice and mercy, and mostly his mercy
God is patient and longsuffering, but God is also the one whose wrath makes hell hell for example. One thing for sure, He showed his mercy before he shows his judgment
