Rather than giving opinions and guessing - you may want to read the Dog Laws for Rhode Island. http://www.dogbitelaw.com/PAGES/Rhode_I.html

In easier terms see: http://www.edgarsnyder.com/accidents/dogbite/dogbite-law/rhode-island.html

I have no idea about laws on dogs but... is that someone who got bit pressing charges or anything? If not, I don't think so. But if he is, I have no idea why... (Hopefully, you have a Warning: Beware of Dog" sign). If he was trespassing, then the dog was only doing his job of protecting you and your house. Why is that against the law? It should be wrong to trespass.

If it is protecting your property and the person is trasspassing on your property then no, but if the dog chases the person and bites him in the street it can be put down, that is the law. The dog is then classified as a danger to the human race, it is not fair I know, but what can one person do against the state.

Depends on your local animal control laws.

In KC the dog is confined for 10 days rabies observation. The bill is paid by the owner. Yes this part sucks. Someone trespasses on your property and you have to pay the bill.

If your yard is not fenced I would get it fenced quickly to avoid future problems.

Different states have different laws. By law, our rescue group cannot adopt out a dog that bites or has bitten. The animal must be destroyed or kept in a perminate controlled environment. (North Carolina and Virginia)

it really is a complicated one to respond to b/c even as it comprises the regulation there are such an excellent number of issues that would make an effect pass both direction. First it relies upon on if he change into surely on your resources or no longer. Did he omit a fence or did he stumble into the backyard off a sidewalk? Is the resources marked without trespassing signs and warning signs or with signs and warning signs caution of a canines? What time change into it? Is your position of residing in a community of conventional occuring crime or commonly used to have drunken human beings round? Any of those would nicely be used to both help your case or theirs. it really is the position a lawyer who's strong at lawyering is accessible in. even if it also potential you'd be screwed from the note pass. Any time you ultimately end up concerning any portion of gov't you get one effect. You pay money. era. also, the decide who will be certain the authentic result has the perfect say and if he doesn't like animals or has been biten through a canines or someone he knows has also will influence their decision. yet another portion of understand is that attorneys and judges are in collusion with one yet another for the perfect pupose of creating wealth. The attorneys opt to help themselves and the judges opt to maintain money flowing into gov't to maintain their greed device going. So maximum proper suggestion is to dodge that direction if in any respect plausible. interior the authentic although, if it does ensue, and your canines are on your resources even as it occurs and the fellow change into posing possible to you or your kinfolk, your going to have the better hand. If there change into no possibility then you acquire issues for confident. Failure to regulate your puppy. also the variety of canines will be a plausible. American pit bull canines get a nasty rap b.c they're used for scuffling with and could be very agressive.

I think the laws are much the same everywhere. Civil issues aside. The worst that will happen ,is animal regulations will hold him and evaluate him to see if he is "A threat" if they deem not , he'll be released back to you.If you are concerned he may not pass their tests, find another place for him to stay for a while, when things blow over bring him back and register him under a new name. Its like doggie witness protection.I had to do this with my Dobie many years ago.

In Greece, if someone is trespassing, and if you have a sign: beware-dog, then the dog is allowed to bite, kill or whatever. Also, I think you Americans have gone too far with the death penalty: death penalty for a bite?

The dog should be quarantined by animal control and have a chip put in but then returned to you and monitored to determine if it bites again.
