When I've been to churches in the past, I've always noticed women were talking. Turns out that violates the word of that alleged, stupid, invisible man in the sky with super powers of yours:

14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.
14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

How should they be punished?

Some churches take these words literally while others interpret them within the context with which they were given to the Corinthians. By the way, scripture is cited thus: I Corinthians 14:34-35. The context of this particular scripture was in the burgeoning church of Corinth in which men and women were having innitial instruction from Paul on the message of Jesus Christ. In the early church, men and women sat on opposite sides of the church. Men, because they had studied and were familiar with the Old Testament scriptures, were able to follow the message with some ease. Women were instructed by their husbands and no one else, yet they were welcomed in the new church. On this basis, when women did not understand the message, they called across the church for explanation from their husband. Apparently, this happened often enough to cause some confusion and interruption to the message and the church. The instruction was intended to give some order to the church. Men were told to instruct their wives at home rather than yell back answers to questions across the church and above the hearing of the message. It was not intended to relegate women to an inferior position in the church. It was simply to facilitate order. I happen to have allegiance to a church that interprets the scripture literally and therefore abide by their strict interpretation, but I also understand the context with which it was given. If you look in the Bible, you will find that God quite often honored women and only Moses' sister was silenced... and that, I think, only because she stirred the people to murmer against Moses.

There is no stupid invisible man in the sky with celestial powers. You have not been taught correctly.
It all lies within YOU.
I don't believe they should be punished.
As time goes along, things change.
If you will remember, women were not allowed to vote. That changed.
There are many contradictions in The Bible. If they would allow the newly found books to be open to the public, we would find a new generation has risen.
Some Christians do not know how to grow in God.
There is a plan and so far the Bible has been pretty on que.
Nothing is perfect, nor is the dilution of the writing of the Bible.

Ah....another classic case of "ooh...you see? Paul hates women"
Sometimes, I can't stand it when a non-believer tries ever so hard to rip apart scripture without really understanding the complete context of what is being said.
The scripture remains true: The natural man cannot comprehend the things of God because they must be spiritually discerned.
I can't even begin to answer a question like this because I'll just get mad and lose my testimony in a hurry.

Helpful hint: when you post a Bible verse, you need to include the Book (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus...Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, etc.) as well as the chapter and verse. When you put just "14:34" you're missing the first part of the citation.

Interesting point, though.

For those who wanted Book & Chapter, it is found in 1 Corinthians 14, King James Version.

He did not take it out of context, Paul specifically states women should shut up and if they want to know something, they should ask their husbands. And, it applies to all Christian women.

But, as someone else pointed out, Christians pick and choose the verses they follow, so it doesn't matter.

consider this was written back in Ancient Times when the Ladies were nothing more than property and you have an idea as to why this was written. Cultures and Societies have evolved and changed since this was written and therefore these quotes should not be taken literally but figuratively speaking.

First of all, you are taking this out of context. Paul was writing to the Ephesian women who were causing problems in the Church. That was also 2000 + years ago and if you ban 50% of the population from preaching, teaching or participation, then you have a closed society that is more like the third world countries we see today.
When Jesus redeemed us from sin, He also redeemed men and women from the curse they were living under. Jesus placed a very high importance on women- he appeared to a woman after the Resurrection after all.

Excelent question my friend. The problem with Christians is that they treat the bible as a buffet, choosing what do and do not want to believe in on any particular day.
I'm 40 years old, and all my life I just don't get Christian's silly beliefs. The bible is SUPPOSED to be their word and what they live by. Such sillyness.
