Does anyone know if it's possible to use the IR port on my laptop as a replacement for a lost television remote? I've been searching but can't seem to find any software that will do this.

It's unlikely that it would work. It would be better to buy a $10 universal remote that can be used on many different brands of TV.

I looked for this a while ago and the answer I discovered is that they are different frequencies, so it can't work.

I was amazed when I found USB or Serial IR connectors that they were in the $100 range! It made no sense since universal remotes were only $10. I was thinking of building a Lego robot to operate the universal remote.
