Jesus claimed clearly (according to the Bible if you can believe that) that he is God.
All orthodox Christian churches (catholics, orthodox and most protestants) hold that Jesus is God.
As these consist of the majority of the worlds religious population the vote if everybody voted would come out as Jesus is God.
The title son of God cannot mean a literal son as in a human way. This would be blatant rubbish. The orthodox belief is that Jesus is God incarnate (in human form) the term son of god applies to that (as indeed does the word of God often in OT).

Jesus is God AND the Son of God. He said,"all power is given unto me in heaven and earth." (Matthew 28:18) So He is God. But He is the Son of God, because He was conceived in the womb of a virgin. Her egg apparently was supernaturally fertilized by the Holy Spirit. This in part fulfilled the promise given to satan in Genesis 3:15, "it (the seed of the woman) shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel."

He is also a messenger of sorts. He is referred to as the first Apostle or, "sent one" (Hebrews 3:1).

Jesus never claimed to be God? Look at these: John 5:18 & 8:58. When Jesus referred to Himself as, "I AM" He was calling Himself God. That is why the Jews try to stone Him when He said it. The term, "I Am" harks back to Moses at the burning bush when he asked God, "who shall I tell them sent me?" God's reply was, tell them "I Am" sent you.

Jesus as God's Son (sharing the same essence) was understood by the Apostles and the early church and this truth was accepted as an official Church stance.

Hebrews 1
Jesus Christ Is Gods Son
1Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. 2But now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he made the universe and everything in it. 3The Son reflects God's own glory, and everything about him represents God exactly. He sustains the universe by the mighty power of his command. After he died to cleanse us from the stain of sin, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God of heaven.

Messenger. However,I will leave out the word "just".Being the messenger was a pretty important job back then. And imagine how they would feel if they knew their words were still in effect today.I personally think Jesus was human like the rest of us,but you never know for sure.Maybe we atheists are wrong, indeed. But on the flipside...

Jesus, Lamb of God. Lamb- a baby sheep- perfect and with no blemish.
Jesus- Anointed one of God.
Jesus- Light of this world.
Jesus- Saviour to all who call on His name and believe in Him.
Jesus- Lord of Lords, King of Kings.
